The bed in a 21

Hi All
I've just read that the bed in the 21 is 80" long. Is this true? Will a fitted double bed sheet with 12 " deep pockets work on the mattress? Does anyone have suggestions for the bedding? I was planning to use the linens I have for my Casita. I definitely do not want to pick up my new Escape and find that I am unable to make the bed.

Thanks Mitzi

A Full size(Double) is 54 X 74; a Queen is 60 X 80. Don't see how a fitted Double sheet would work, however a Queen would.

I used a queen fitted and it's just long enough, It is too wide, but I tuck the extra fabric down. I found that the jersey fitted bottom sheets are stretchy enough to get rid of the extra fabric, especially the less expensive ones at Walmart. If we use it more, I will tailor the side of the sheet to get rid of a little extra fabric, but we used it that way for 2 months.

I had my mattress cut smaller so that it did not come into contact with the exterior walls, maybe that is why my double sheets worked.

We got these to keep the fitted sheets from getting scrambled up. Have not tried them yet. We could not get the cheaper ones to work. These remind me of the suspenders my mother made me wear when I was a tyke.

Thanks. I didn't know there was such a thing as full XL bedding. I found some online and will be getting them soon.

We have the standard mattress in our 21. I use standard full sheets over that mattress plus a 2" memory foam mattress topper and it works great. And that is with normal cotton (not stretchy) sheets. I think you'll be fine!

sheets

We also used full size flannel sheets. I modified them to take the extra fabric off the corner and sewed the top sheet to the bottom to maintain the maximum space the "hallway" at the end of the mattress.
I did the same thing with lightweight percale sheets. The mattress is only 8" thick or so which means that the sheets have extra length in the pockets to take up the longer mattress.

Catherine,
What happened to your trailer? Your avatar mentions RIP May 2016?
If no longer camping, perhaps you may want to continue interaction with a sideline of custom made sheet sets for various models, I know there is a market for them.

They do make sheets called an extra long full. They fit well except for the little notch on the corner. We used a set of suspenders to keep that in check. We went to great trouble to find a mattress cover and a fitted sheet in brown. We use a Tavasak so the mattress is exposed and looks much nicer if in a compatible color.

That said, someone found a source for a brown water proof mattress cover in a extra long full and I'll be darned if I can find it again. The extra long full is exactly 54 x 80. We bought a full set of sheets just to get the bottom fitted sheet. The combo mattress cover would have been perfect.

All you guys on the forum have been such a great help in my decision making! I looked at two 21's last October and have not been in one since. I do wish I could see one again prior to signing my build sheet but it seems that just isn't happening.

I am now just days away from finalizing my build sheet and am trying to make plans for The Big Pick Up Trip. Thanks to all for letting me know that my current sheets and coverlet will work and I can decide after we get home if I need or want to shop for something different.

On another note, our hatch date is November 30. We have been struggling with when to go for pick up. We will have to drive across Montana and South Dakota on the way to Chilliwack. We want to go to the Redwoods in California, visit parts of Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, Colorado and Utah on our way home. It seems the Northwestern coast starts to warm up a bit in February and we would like to be home by mid May. We do have 4 wheel drive on our tow and could allow extra days on our trip out in case of snow. I wonder how many extra days to factor in and if you all have any advise or knowledge to share regarding our trip out or back.

Thanks
Mitzi

You may want to take the southern route ( I 40 ) out and return and go up to factory on I 5 both ways. That way your exposure to road closures would be minimal and you would get in your California visit.

Good idea Jim. It looks like it will only add about 600 miles to our trip if we go that route. Then we can visit the Redwoods twice. I absolutely love walking through the Redwood forests! They are so quiet and otherworldly since they have almost no wildlife or insects in them.
