The ultimate folding bike

Very cool, hub-less wheels, major space saver. Just a prototype, not available on the market.... yet.

What happens when you ride through mud? Seems the contact with the rim would be impacted.
I know, I should look at the video, but I'm video adverse.

At this time, the prototype looks like it is made more for urban use. I find it fascinating when some one takes a completely new approach to a design that has been around for generations.

I agree - this looks like a great bike for the stage at an investor show, but not for a real road (even a paved one). Interesting scheme, and a clever way to get better folding, but not particularly innovative ("hubless" designs - which really do have hubs on little wheels, which in turn run on big hoops - are common as design concepts). "Hubless" designs are almost invariably failures in the real world; in this case, it promises to be extremely heavy (in the video he can barely carry the parts), and the prototype is hopelessly low-geared (as it will be unless a step-up gearbox is added).

I have nothing against video when it adds real value, but I hate wading through one unnecessarily. Also, I am usually bandwidth-limited... but at the moment I have a big "pipe" available so I watched the video. You didn't miss much...

I think the product is a non-starter, but maybe it will inspire a more useful design. In any case, it was interesting to see - thanks Buddy.

For another interesting - and likely as impractical - design: Contortionist: cleverly designed full-size folding bike
