Time on Maintenance

Hi, Escapers,

Besides winterizing and maybe waxing (does everyone do this annually and how much time spent), what other maintenance chores take up your time and how much time are we talking? Is there a list anywhere of all of the normal maintenance necessary on an Escape or similar trailer? I am trying to figure out how much of a time-consuming situation we would be getting into. Even though I know you all love every minute!
Thank you.
Cathy

Re: Time on Maintenance

Cathy,

Winterizing and then dewinterizing (summerizing?) are by far the major time consumers for me and neither really takes that long. Since we keep Blue stored in a shed, we only wax once a year, which seems to be quite adequate for our too few trips each year. Wheel bearing repacking is recommended yearly (although my mechanic thinks every 2 years is plenty for the mileage we do). Like a home, things will inevitably break and will need repair as your trailer ages, but Reace and Tammy use quality products that seem to hold up very well.

Re: Time on Maintenance

There is a pretty comprehensive list of maintenance items to check in the Escape Manual (things like bearings and tire wear).

I'm a pretty lazy owner so my Escape is lucky to get washed a couple of times a year - and it seems to take forever - a half day easily.

Winterizing is easy once you do it once or twice - less than an hour. Maybe an hour if I include emptying it out for the winter (I usually bring in towels/bedding and food). Likewise, getting ready for the first trip in the spring is about an hour - flushing the antifreeze, etc is very quick; restocking - keep everything in one location in the basement so it's just a matter of hauling it upstairs. I have a list of food staples that I just restock from my kitchen.

Between trips is minimal if you stay organized. I have a list of stuff to remove and clean (and remember to replace) after each trip. I clean the interior after every trip (in the Northwest, it's always wet and muddy). I have a list of food staples to check and refill when necessary.

Hi: Cathy...Time spent in the pursuit of happiness isn't really spent...its INVESTED!!! You can invest as much time as you care to, to make your Escapes more or less enjoyable. Go ahead and try it...you'll like it! Alf
