Wonder if they went to scales. Loaded 21's are apparently at least 4100 lbs. Our 2011 4Runner has 5000 capacity.

I also tow a 17B (actual weight packed for a long trip - (3010 lbs & 340 lbs hitch weight) with a RAV4 (V6 & tow package). I generally tow at 57MPH on secondary roads & have been happy with the combination. No problems with handling, plenty of power (I often point out that it has 29 less horsepower than my 1969 SS Camaro).

I get 15MPG towing, unhooked - 25 highway & 22 around town. Over 56,000 miles so far, including mountains in both the East & West. The biggest problem I have is the small gas tank (15 gallons). Out west there are drives between gas stations that get exciting when there is a headwind!

Yeah, like Green River to Salina in my birth state (Utah)-- About 100 miles between stations. There's a highway in Nevada (don't remember the one) where there was about 180 miles between stations. But, our Canadian friends have all of that beat. There are some highways (I notice alot of them are in eastern Canada) where you may have 450+ km between gas stations. Better take extra fuel in cans!

This lesser-known sign on the way out of the km 381 truck stop reminds that those planning to take the Trans-Taiga Road spur east from km 544 of the James Bay Highway mainline have an even longer distance to gas up again. (The sign may overstate the distance a little -- an official travel guide to the James Bay region indicates that gas is available along the Trans-Taiga at least some of the time only 449 km/279 miles, rather than 500 km/310 miles, northeast from the km 381 truck stop.

We are getting a new 19 early next year and will be buying a new tow vehicle. For a variety of reasons a pickup is not an option for us. Looking at a Jeep Grand Cherokee with the factory tow package. 6200 lbs capacity plus anti-sway, heavy duty battery and heavy duty cooling is in the package. Perhaps it will be overkill but I have had two too many uncomfortable experiences on very long steep hills in remote areas of the American SW pulling a trailer within the capacity of the vehicle. For the new 19 and I am avoiding being close to the limit. I suspect there are more reliable and perhaps cheaper vehicles but not with good tow capacity.

It would be way easier if my one vehicle could be a pickup truck but that is not to be.

We picked up a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the tow package earlier this month. We will be traveling from MA to Chilliwack to pick up our 17B at the end of the month. I'll have more to say about the jeep after we get back home mid Oct. So far we love it but only have about 400 miles on it. Time will tell.

We have 72,000 miles on our 2011 Grand Cherokee, 1/2 mileage towing a loaded 19 or 21 and would replace it with another. We do have the Hemi engine and would either get another or go for the diesel.

I just traded in my 2009 Ram 1500 Hemi 5 speed for a 2014 Ram Hemi. I did not go the diesel route for several reasons, one of which is it's small size. That said, I researched and decided on the new 8 speed Hemi with a 3:21 rear end. This is the standard set up with certain models and it works well. At 62 or 100 km/hr I'm sitting at less than 1300 rpm. The low end gearing is phenomenal. Have not towed yet as I'm still in the break in period. Just wanted to throw some more wood in the fire...

Well, i know you guys do not have the possibility to buy a ISUZU, but just for the heck of it.....

Just did the math on the mileage....

While towing the 5.0 Classic from the Netherlands (flat land) via Germany and Switzerland (both uphill/mountains) to Tuscany (mountains) we did 11.5Km to the liter, that is about....

7.14 mile per liter which would be about 7.14 * 3.7 = 26.4 miles to the gallon if i'm not mistaken.

we drive about 85-90 km's/H or 52-55 miles/H. Which is the legal max speed in Europe when towing.

Not too bad at all i believe, this is achieved with a 2.5Litre twin turbo diesel engine.

Uphill we experienced no problems at all, maintaining our 90Km/H speed was easy, just clicked the cruise control to 90 and up we went. Ref's were standard about 1300-1500 RPM's and uphill about 2000 RPM's.
