Trailer vs Garage Door Height

We are building a new 30 ft x 40 ft pole barn
What height garage door is required to accommodate a
21 ft. Escape ?
I did a search and I found heights from 9 ft 6” to 12 ft
The cost to go from a pole barn with a 10 ft door to one with a 12 ft door is substantial and I don’t need a 12 ft door to get my boat through the door
Answers or opinions are welcome

Thanks

I think the 10' door would be fine for any bumper trailer, unsure about the 5.0. I would not get the antenna, it sits higher than the a/c shroud.

Our building has 12 foot sidewalls with a 10 ft high door, 18 feet wide. Depending on your available room, you might want to consider 32X40 as those 8 foot increments might be a litle more economical.

12' is the typical height of a big stick-built RV or trailer

Escape 21 should be under 10'. specs claim 9'7" ... I was going to measure mine but can't find my tape measure

Our 10' high door is 9'11" and our 21 fits fine. Not sure how much clearance, but not a concern. We have the fixed TV antenna, which is lower than than the Jack antenna, which might be the highest item.

Ours is the older style, so check with Escape on your various roof items. They may have changed a little.

Does this mean that you finally have that new 21' Escape on order?

I added a bay onto the end of my shop (pole barn) to store my trailers/campers. Decided a 14 ft clearance was good as that's a lot of the bridges on the interstate highways.

Kept the cost down by not having a door at all!

We are building the pole barn on 20 acres of woods six miles from our residence so a door is kind of a necessity .

Many Escape customers have visited my shop for installation of widgets, and all go under a 10' 10" railroad trestle to get here. Never measured mine, but there appears to be a good 6 inches clearance. I'd go with an 11 foot door.

I was told by ETI that my 21 Escape with AC would be 9 feet and 1 inch....8 feet 7 inches plus 6 more inches for the AC.

On the ETI website, it lists the height of the 5.0 TA as 9' 7" but I don't know if that includes the AC or any antennas. Anyone know?

Since both of those items mentioned are options, I'd say without. Do not forget that the 5.0 roof slants down fore and aft.

The A/C is lower than the loft, but they do put the TV antenna on the loft adding to this height if you choose that option.

I have always planned to measure my height but always forget to. I imagine a 10' door would work fine without the antenna.

Hi: Hilola... On our 5.0TA the TV antenna is the tallest part. To the top of it from the floor is 10' 3". We just had our pinbox remounted to accomodate our new 2016 Ram Laramie Longhorn 4X4 w/ 20" wheels and tires. The trailer attached to the truck is now "On the level". Alf

Does Escape offer a crank down antenna (like many other RV manufacturers)? That would eliminate the expensive need to go with a 12' garage door. Or would that be an aftermarket deal?

BTW, if anyone would care to share photos of their garages, pole barns, etc. that would be nice. We are thinking of building some sort of structure to keep the sun and snow/ice off our trailer (once we buy one).

5.0 TA tv antenna

Alf,
Which television antenna do you have: the rotating “jack” antenna or the fixed location little flying saucer one, which I have.

The heights are considerably different.

Based on my own experience, I'd say look at the cost of increasing the height later vs. doing it now. Yes it costs more now than not doing it but how does it compare to doing it later if you end up with a trailer needing more than 10'?

Oh my stars YES. Go higher. It's not just getting it through the door now, but maybe later. I found out the hard way. Four inches too short!
