Truck was stolen and the police found it 5 miles from friends house. Nothing was taken from the truck everything was in tack. Police called them and they went to pick it up, before it would be towed away.
Very lucky

I walk our dog around our hilly neighborhood. Recently I saw a pickup parked just down my street that I knew belonged to one neighbor who lived about 5 blocks away. It sort of made sense, since the guy with the truck is in the wood stove installation business, and my neighbor had hired him to help him install a wood stove. But after several days... anyway, I spotted him during a dog walk and asked him about his truck, like was there something wrong with it, why is it parked where it is. Turns out he was looking for it!
Apparently, it was left there to see if he had a lo-jack or something, and the thieves likely were getting ready to return. It was just weird that it was left where he had been working a couple weeks before.

Just enjoying my coffee here in the Riviera Maya, and thought I would update.
I did get my truck back after a few days, but it was beat up pretty bad. Obviously it was not pros, but someone who had an idea of what to do. Both door handles/locks were broken out, and the drivers door pried out pretty hard. The rear door on the aluminum topper was broken right off and missing. They had rammed something real hard with the rear bumper, folding it back and crushing the rear fender on that side. A good size dent was in the front bumper too. It will also need a good checking for other potential unseen damages.
On top of that, the topper had an old, crappy quality coffee table, chair and couch in it. The back seat had an old fake plant, and a bunch of other junk household stuff in it. They obviously figured it was a great place to dump garbage.
Of course, no tools were left in it. The total as of now is about $13,000. Most of these are the personal tools, and fortunately most of the bigger company ones were in my garage, or on site. Insurance will cover this, minus the $1,000 deductible.
Last week the truck insurance company finally got an appraiser out to have a look. He said he would have to crunch numbers to see whether it would be a write off or not. I am pretty darn aggravated with them, as I really need to know whether to take it in for repairs (which would have been nice to do while I am gone now). If they are writing it off, it would be nice to start looking for a replacement. It is a pain in the butt trying to work out of my Pilot, plus I have a big dump trailer I need to go clean up jobs with.
But, oh well for now. Pretty sure a pitcher of mojitos today will help comfort me.

Jim - enjoy your vacation and it sounds like that pitcher is a a good idea to take your mind off the joys of insurance companies.

Online from the Riveria Maya, wow! I remember the bad old days when just to make a phone call from that area one had to go to a special shop and pay by the minute, several bucks a minute at that!
Hopefully the water is better now, too. Or maybe water drinking isn't on the menu...

I gotta say, if I was where he was, the last thing I'd be doing is posting here. It is beautiful there.

Hopefully you do get to do some snorkeling soon too, it sure was a lot of fun today. Will be on the schedule for tomorrow too, I just love cruising around the coral reefs checking out the life there.

Not was, still am, and it is beautiful, hopefully you can make it here soon. It would be a weird dynamic to see you not posting though, bet you couldn't do it.

We have been able to keep the beer cold, Gabi. We snorkeled until lunch time, but did not snorkel for lunch.
This is my fifth trip to Mexico, and have eaten at many a place with lots of good food, but today south of Tulum we ate by far the best meal I have ever had here. Every dish the four of us had was fantastic. The mojitos were quite good too.

This place was not on that list. It is at the Encantada Hotel, a resort. We were just driving by on this narrow busy road, and decided to stop on a whim. Sure glad we did. Right now we are just staying at a rented condo (great place too), but if looking for a resort, would sure look hard at this one.
edit: just checked the prices, maybe not.
