Ron,

You need to re-read your post. In fact you said the batteries didn't last beyond six hours and that the trip is ten hours.
In my post, I said nothing about jell ( gel actually ) packs or thirty days. I mentioned the system used by fish camps to get frozen fish back to Europe with their clients.
And, besides, the important thing is having enough room for beer and keeping it cold.

They went dead on one approx six hour trip BUT as I clearly said before that, not on the other trips. In a separate post I said the fish stayed frozen for ten hours (Bella Coola to Port hardy).. not that the batteries lasted ten hours. I had no choice in this case as it was an unplanned exit out of Bella Coola.. if the fish spoiled they spoiled

In my post, I said nothing about jell ( gel actually ) packs or thirty days.

I know you didn't mention it. I did just so we would be clear that it was not an option for me because it sounded like you were offering it as one.

You say and others do that the refrigerator stays cool a long time.
It either does or it doesn't.
If it does the batteries will not be needed much and wont run down
If it doesn't the batteries will be on all the time and run down.

You pick it.

But here is what I found.

If you run the refrigerator for a couple hours at the highest setting to get it coldest then you can turn it down to the lowest (which as far as I know will keep the fish frozen for days) and the batteries will not be needed as much over the trip time.

Ron thinking (at least on person thought my post was worthwhile)

Hi: All... Is there room for another Contrarian in here We have a two way fridge and both ways are "HERS". She allows some beer in there so I for the most part stay out of it. Alf

Re: two way vs three way refrigerators

We have a 2 way in our current Scamp. We always try to keep the freezer full (with blue ice if not food). That really seems to help keep the refrig cold if we need to turn it off propane for any reason.

Eric - (hoping to get an Escape 17 B soon if we can sell the Scamp for a decent price)

Re: two way vs three way refrigerators

With a 3 way, all bases are covered, but I do not know if one can have one's car engine on to keep up the battery, on a ferry.
