Vinyl an Option on 5.0TA Steps?

So it just struck me that we have 2 dogs. You'd think I'd remember that, but thats a whole other story. It also struck me that the stairs are carpeted in the 5.0TA.

I guess I have seen too many commercials showing dogs run across carpet leaving something behind that looks suspiciously like crude oil. I immediately envisioned the dogs escaping into the trailer when we are at a muddy campground and bounding up the stairs to snuggle on the soft, brand new quilt my wife will be making for our bed.

I then envisioned that happening enough times to where the stairs turn a awful color of crud. Needless to say, I don't like that vision.

So has anyone had Escape put vinyl on the steps instead of carpeting? I am thinking we would not need it on the upper area, as that will be covered by the bed.

It's either that or leave the dogs home...wait, maybe we'll keep the carpet!! My wife is making me add "just kidding"

Something not even considered, but good to see people thinking.

A few good things about using carpet, is that it is warmer, offers more traction from slipping (though a rubber nosing on a vinyl tread would work too), plus it is real easy to change out when it does need it.

We will just have Jasper stay on the main level unless his feet are clean, as he isn't getting on the bed if all dirty.

What's the saying "dogs have a mind of their own"? Devious little creatures. Especially when one of which is a Chihuahua...

Nu uh. Not here. I am the Big Dog, and my wishes will be respected, or boy oh boy, do I ever have a mean, menacing growl.

Hi: nathanj04011... My daughters Chihuahua should have been called "Tigger" instead of Duke. Seems he has springs instead of back legs!!! Alf

My worry about changing out the stair carpet is that in a few years, I'm not sure I could find it to match the upper area...I suppose I could get extra from Escape...

I don't think that would matter a lot. You could easily find a complimenting one at and End-Of-The-Roll type place for not much money at all, maybe enough to do the loft.

That begs another question. Is the entire loft carpeted, or just the area beside the bed? I would assume just the latter.

There is clear plastic clingy stuff, sorta like plastic food wrap but heavier duty, you can get & apply to the carpet steps. I'm not sure what it's called exactly. And after awhile if it starts to wear and/or lift you can peel it up & apply new.

You could carry some towels for the steps, for when it is wet outside or put up a baby gate, my 2 will have to stay down below. I'm sure you can get vinyl on the steps, but they would then be slippery.

Hi: Jim Bennett... The carpet in our 5.0 was only around the bed...The 5.0TA is totally carpeted. Alf

Thanks for the confirmation, Alf. I guess it is just easier for them to do the whole thing.

I think the stairs are carpeted because of the hinges. Kinda hides them.

You could always staple a clear carpet runner over and around the steps... Mainstays Low Pile Carpet Vinyl Runner, Clear, 2' x 12' - Walmart.com

Good suggestions! If our dogs were as good as Jim's, I wouldn't worry. But alas they aren't. Ok, maybe it also might be PARTIALLY for my benefit too...I have been know to enter our Casita from time to time with my shoes on (much to my wife's delight I must add) and now that there will be carpet...oh the humanity!!
