Want to have a toaster oven

Looking to do a build for the escape 21. We do mainly dry camping. Would like to have the option to use a toaster oven on occasion. ( would one always need to be with shore power, or have a generator, or options to include in trailer. Or to put outside on a table and plug in . We do not plan to do a oven or a microwave. So what extra's should we consider in adding to the trailer in a build for power accommodations. I read abit on one thread that people do use toaster ovens,

I can't speak about generators and such, but I do know that there is an outside 110 outlet near the door.

We have had a toaster oven with us just about every outing for the past 5 years. We find them handy and easy to use. Probably 80% of the time we use it outside placed on a small folding table, plugged in with a short cord to the outside receptacle. Other times it’s used inside on the counter. We bake pies, crescent rolls, cinnamon rolls, home made little pocket pizzas, cookies and an egg casserole for a few examples. My advice would be to not spend a lot of money on one. The small to medim sized ones will do the job, fit under the counter, and if they conk out, which ours has not ( of course it cost a whole $29.95 so will probably last a long time) hit the dumpster and buy a new one. That’s our experience.

We did not get the oven in our 2016 21' when we ordered it. All of my other campers have had one, but they never got used. Instead, I went to Goodwill and picked up a $2 used toaster oven, cleaned it up, and use it most every camping trip. It is stored nicely under the stove next to the coffee maker in the space the oven would have gone. We do use the microwave every trip as well for heating pastries for breakfast or leftovers. No regrets, whatsoever, not getting the oven.

In order to use a toaster oven you will require 120V AC, which your trailer does not normally have in a stand-alone configuration. To get AC power you have three choices: plug into shore power, plug into a generator, or install a sufficiently large inverter in your trailer that will turn your 12V DC juice stored in your batteries into 120B AC that you can then use for toaster or any other 120V things that you might want to plug in.

While I use the 21's propane oven when dry camping (I don't carry a generator) I do have a toaster oven that I sometimes use when I have hookups & it is too hot to fire up the built in oven. I use it on the picnic table, or my own roll up table, or, if cool enough, inside on the counter.

I wouldn't suggest building it in - clearances could be a problem; same with convection ovens. Some have done it, but I'd worry about the heat inside a cabinet.

We had a larger convection/toaster oven but it wasn't easy getting it into the wardrobe shelf....Last time I tried I got annoyed and said never again---slow learner--it took about 4 years!! LOL

Just bought a smaller "Breville Smart Oven"---quite a bit smaller in size but still fits an 11 inch pizza....Fits very easily on the middle shelf...and this one will stay in the trailer---We intend to use it quite a bit next week when we are in Oregon...

Wasn't a cheap one but got it on sale and intend to have it many years..

If it's just toast you want placing a slice of bread on a hot, dry frypan will do the trick. Baking, not so much.

If you don't mind me asking, which of the several Breville Smart Oven models did you buy? And is that still the model you'd recommend, or a different one? Dale

It is the "Mini Smart Oven" BREBOV450XL Regular Price at London Drugs here in BC was $229.99---I got it for $60 off...

That may just be the London Drugs number... But it is the mini.

For all we will use it for in the trailer--it is more than ample...

Thanks. That is indeed the Breville model number. Way nicer than our 25 year old Black & Decker. The little B&D still does everything we ask of it. We just don't ask it to do very much. We may need to check into the Mini. Thanks again for the info....

We do use the 120v toaster for a minute or so to make a slice of toast on the inverter. Its an inexpensive 2 slice one from Walmart and does fine.

The toaster oven would take more than a minute or two, so haven't tried that ever on the inverter, plus it probably uses too much wattage.

We are very happy with this particular toaster oven with convection: Oster TSSTTVCG04 18.5" x 15.5" x 10.5". Its relatively light and stores in its own box, and rides in the truck. Bakes well.
