Terry and I put down our deposit yesterday on an Escape 19. It will be ready in late November, although we probably won't pick it up until next summer. I have learned a lot through this forum, but it seems like there is always more to know.

How much deposit does Escape require and how long will they hold a trailer for you? I am ready to buy, but cannot pick it up until late summer next year because I won't be moving to a location where I have room to store it until July 2014.

We paid a $500 deposit for our trailer.

For pick up you order the trailer by the date it completes production. So you could order now one that completes when you plan to take delivery in July 2014. They have the production schedule on their web site which shows all the model production completion dates - need to log into their site to see the schedule or email or phone them. (ex. say you wanted the 5.0 that completed production on July 6 2014 you would reserve that one with your deposit. It takes about 3 weeks to build.) Most changes, additions or modifications you want have to be finalized before the unit goes into production. Good idea to start planning ahead of time with Escape if you want to do any changes or modifications.

They will store it for a reasonable length of time after completion and final payment is not due till you take delivery. (that was the process when we bought ours just over a year ago). Escape can give you more details about the process - they are very accommodating and go out of their way to make the customer happy in our experience.

Maybe find out when you need to put a deposit down to confirm a July 2014 delivery. Though if it is only $500 now to hold it until then, I would just do it.

The deposit will hold your slot in the delivery calendar but once it goes into production and is completed, I would think payment is expected, if you want them to hold it. They will hold it for you after that, gratis. The good news is your warranty does not start until you pick it up. You also need to be aware of the exchange rate, right now it is favorable to the dollar. I'm planning on sending in most of my payment now, as 4 months from now it may not be as favorable. Today is was $96/$100 so on a $32,000 unit, $30,800 is due, a $1200 savings.

Thank you for the information on the schedule, was not aware that's how Escape does there production. I was planning on making a trip up there to order, but may reserve one of the production dates with a deposit. Also, about 99% sure I am going with the 19. I had my eye on the 5.0 or the new 5.1, but have concluded that the 19 may be the best option for us. I love the 5.0 design, but don't like the fact that you basically give up the bed of your truck for the hitch, and the 19 has pretty much everything the 5.0 has, and you can get the storage box with the 19. The full size queen is another important (must have) item for us. I need extra room when I sleep-

I agree about the exchange rate. We ordered in October for a June delivery. By the time we picked up, the exchange rate had flipped from about $2000 in our favor to almost that much the other way.

Now in addition to options, there's the exchange rate to think about. Not because of planning, but because of luck, we paid for the deposit on a good day -- Canadian dollar was worth .96, but that could evidently change in a second.

one can see the variations over past 12 months, it seems no more than 1-5% in either direction.

All the more reason too, Jim, for we Canadians to buy an Escape rather than a Scamp, Parkliner, Casita, or Lil Snoozy since the exchange rate will make those makes cost more for us, and anyway the Escape is a better FG all around right?
