I can not open my door to the Escape, it is iced over. Have to wait until next week before it will be above freezing…..

Jim, hope you filled up with propane, food, and water, and emptied your black tank before you went into your trailer. What are you going to do being cooped up inside your trailer for a another week?

We have nothing to worry about here in NJ except that our town has been having power outages sporadically -- sometimes for 24-48 hours -- for the last two weeks ever since a transformer blew. And our oil burner has an electrical switch so that means no heat when the power goes. The police have been transporting elderly people to warming stations when the power goes. I keep telling Terry that if we had our trailer we could be out there with the propane furnace.

Ruthe, Don't know if you'll be getting such, but our Honda 2k generator works great keeping the furnace and fridge running if/when we have outages. Won't do much else, but it's enough for us.

For the first time we're actually thinking about getting a generator -- a lot of people did after the big hurricane --- we're just trying to figure out how complicated it would be to get it plugged in with our particular house logistics -- and we'd need to work out gasoline storage. I don't mind when the lights go out, but when it's below freezing out that gives one pause. When we camp that's one thing -- we're prepared -- and it's not illegal (usually) to have a campfire. Campfires are not included in our zoning.

We could be in Key West, but unfortunately Terry is still employed. Check out https://www.coursera.org/course/analyze He's an astronomer and he just started a free online course called Analyze the Universe. Theoretically he could teach it from anywhere, but there are those who might frown at him spending the semester in Key West.

thanks Thoer -- I'll tell Terry -- So far he's got around 7,000 students all around the world -- what's interesting is that a good percentage are older adults who already have their degrees who are interested in learning new things. Last summer when we were traveling he was able to do a lot of prep work from the road -- without the internet we couldn't have travelled for as long.
