Weather related travel

I-5, both north and southbound is closed at the Oregon/California border due to fire.

Just an FYI for those on the road going to Chilliwack for pickup.

UPDATE ON CALIFORNIA FIRE
KLAMATHON FIRE IN SISKIYOU COUNTY
I 5 closed between Ashland and Yreka until further notice. At least through tonight.

Estimated 1,000 - 1,500 acres in size. Burning on both sides of I 5.
Fire jumped the Klamath River and moved into the city of Hornbrook. Structures are confirmed lost. There were civilian injuries, but have not heard of any to fire fighters. No fatalities.
Unknown cause...being investigated.
Massive California response under way.

Thank you so much Donna for keeping us all informed. Didn't realize there was a massive fire near the border. The only fires we seem to be hearing about are our local ones and the big one in Colorado. Stay safe out there.

Not massive. In the grand scheme of things, pretty small. But they've got to get it stopped. I-5 is a major highway. Nothing can move. Hundreds of homes in the communities of Hornbrook, Ager, Hilt and Cole north of Yreka have been evacuated.

I have friends in the Rogue Valley and the winds are picking up. Another fire burning near White City and they've closed Highway 140 east of White City.

And it's only the first week of July....

State of Emergency Declared in Siskiyou County. 0% containment.
US 97 has high traffic volumes. No lodging available north of Redding. Choose alternate routes or stay in the valley if possible.

OPEN!

The Oregon Department of Transportation and Oregon State Police will meter and escort hundreds of drivers through the burn zone southbound from milepost 11, south of Ashland.

The fire is 5% contained.

You're welcome. I'm posting because of those traveling back and forth to Chilliwack. Plus there are a number of all-molded-trailer owners headed for Bandon for the Oregon Coast Gathering.

Right NOW there are 160 wildfires burning in Southern Oregon, bringing evacuations and concern over growth.

Those traveling I-5 from the California border up to Roseburg, particularly in the two southern counties of Jackson and Josephine, please pay attention to possible road closure(s) due to smoke, including city exits.

We are on FIRE in Oregon.

Travel, regardless of the location and time of year needs to be weather focused. Western fires in the summer, tornadoes in the midsection, and snow in the mountains all make for an interesting trip. I always carry and operate a weather radio while towing.

Campfires, open flames banned at Oregon parks and beaches. We're under a State of Emergency because of fires in Oregon. The number one priority fire in then nation is east... The Dalles - Substation Fire. Which is at the far east end of the Columbia Gorge. We almost lost all of the west end last summer, now at the east end.

Thanks for posts! I’m headed out of CA on Saturday, headed east towards Tahoe, so will definitely keep eye and ears open. Such a shame!

Closest was 57 miles from our place farthest about 100 miles. We got 1.65 inches of rain at the home place. Won't have to water the garden for a couple days. Lots of damage in three pretty nice towns.

I remember attending college in Iowa in the late 60's when several nearby towns were destroyed by tornadoes, something you never forget. Stay safe Dave, and others....

Just got back from a week camped on property near Hatch UT. Missed one flash flood on the way up by hours. Kanab UT was flooded the day before on my way back. The BLM office showed me a video of an outhouse going down the highway. They didn’t know if anyone was in it.
Zion was flooded and roads closed. Had to stop and hole up N of Flagstaff which was flooding. Slipped through early next morning and Flagstaff, Prescott have continued to flood.
Trailer did great and only encountered some rain over the week, guess I got lucky. Beautiful trip, but sad for the folks that got hit by these Monsoon storms.

I had friends who were going south on the 6th but it reopened. Unfortunately, they only made it to the Mojave desert when their MH caught fire and burned to the ground. (Everyone is okay, they even saved their car (toad) as well as both dogs but everything inside was a total loss.)

Yosemite National Park was evacuated at noon today and the entire park is now closed to visitors due to encroaching wild fires.
