What keeps you from camping?

I had hip scope surgery on August 21, thus we won't be able to go camping until late September or early October. I'm happy that we had our journey home with the Escape and had some great camping, but this surgery albeit planned has put a temporary damper on the first camping season with our new 21. At least I can look out of the window and see her in the driveway!

So I started thinking about what other things might keep one from camping? Sure, there are things like work and other commitments, but I want to be out there as much as possible when the hip is ready. During my recovery, I am pondering how we might take advantage of the time ahead of us to get out and camp and explore as much as possible. Maybe the better question is what do you do to camp as much as you can? Ok, enough of the rambling for now...

For us right now it's the fact that our 19 has been handed over to its new owners and is on its way to its new home and our 21 isn't ready until November, so next week in jasper in a tent I guess . It's been along time since I have used a tent for car camping

Best wishes Tash for a speedy recovery. You'll be back out there soon.

By the way, do you ever go through Rantoul? My Mom runs the Prairie Pines RV Campground there.

We just missed out on two camping trips because of an injury and impending spine surgery - ugh! The only thing that keeps me from getting depressed about not being able to camp in our new 21 is planning next year's trips!

Only thing that keeps us from camping is having to work ... but it is the work that allowed us to buy the new Escape 19
Guess I can put up with working for another 4 1/2 years

Limited vacation time and the care of the cats who stay home (aka my Mom, so staying in her good graces by not asking too much) are the two reasons we don't get out as much as we want. Here there are DNR campgrounds that don't have services beyond pit toilets, but are free, so the extra expense is just the gas it takes to get to and from.

Yeah, work.. that nasty four-letter word. Plus I have the added responsibility of a very elderly mother. That's okay, I'm grateful I still have her. That won't always be the case.

Hmm Lets see Work, Vacation Time though I have more then enough getting it is the problem living in a state that trying to get south on a Friday or north on a Sunday is an all day event!! :{ But since the trailer can be used in the colder months I am hoping for more use before and after the summer folks do not interfere with my moving around.

Not much! I just totaled the mileage on the trailer & over the last 3 1/2 years the 17B has gone 54,963.2 miles & around 615 days on the road. Retirement is Wonderful!

Looks like we are both on the same time table to retirement I just hope they don't change the rules before I get to the finish line.

What's keeping us from camping? Finally, nothing.

We pick up our trailer at ETI on Friday of next week, then head (slowly--we're rookies) across the Crowsnest Highway to Waterton Lakes NP where we will stay for at least a week. From there, we will monitor weather forecasts from Montana and Idaho right down to Utah, then decide where to go next. Before the snow starts to fall on the mountain passes, we'll head to the Oregon coast, then make our way back up to BC.

Steep learning curve ahead, but that's what keeps the old neurons firing. We welcome any suggestions you might have for must-see attractions, great hikes and bike rides, and exceptional campgrounds along the loop we plan to make.
