Where in bed do you put your head?

Hope this is not a silly question but I have to ask. We are planning for our new 19 at the moment and because the tv was going to be mounted on the drivers side partition between the fridge and the rear bed, I just assumed that our head placement in the rear bed would be on the passenger side, with Captains lights above our heads for reading lights. I have just seen photo's posted by another user of their 19 showing the pillows on the drivers' side of the trailer, which has made me question my thinking. What are your thoughts and rationale for where you place your heads in your beds?

thanks
dave

Re: Where in bed do you put your head?

We put our heads beside the fridge (drivers side) too. To feel right in any bed, my head needs to be away from the door. Weird, eh?

As I rise much earlier than my wife, she is also better shielded from the lights I turn on their too, as I will site on the drivers side bench at the dinette to do whatever I am up to. The bath/fridge block the light way better than the scooped gable would by the galley.

Re: Where in bed do you put your head?

We are on the driver's side as well. Got used to that direction in the Casita and carried it over to the Escape. The TV is mounted on the partition wall next to the stove. Perhaps not quite as "clean" looking of a place to mount it but it works.

Re: Where in bed do you put your head?

Before we took possession of our Cottage, the impression we had was that most people put their heads on the passenger's side. When we saw our first Escape that is the side the owners had used; they also had their tv mounted on the fridge wall.

We did not plan on mounting a tv at all (at least for the start - we had the wall reinforced for the future, just in case, but wanted to give the laptop a go first.) We assumed our heads would be on the passenger side because that was what our consciousness on the issue was.

Our first night out in the rig we were parked a little unevenly, which made the passenger side a little on the downhill slope. Not wanting the blood rushing to my head all night (Glenn didn't really care) I flipped the pillows to the other side and we've been there ever since. We do like that with our heads on the driver's side we don't see the fridge lights all night, and discovered that, like Jim, we prefer being able to see the door (primal instinct I guess!)

I keep my head on the refrigerator side as well, however in the 17, that's the passenger side. I like being able to reach the thermostat without getting up.

Re: Where in bed do you put your head?

I think you will find that the bed opening is not centered and is more to the curb side thus exiting is easier with your head towards the street(refer side). Your feet have less distance to swing around from that location. I had my tv location moved to front dinette area because sometimes I'm up earlier or later than others and this better suits us. If you do decide to mount it forward, Reace can reinforce the entire bath wall so that you are not limited to only mounting it on studs.

Re: Where in bed do you put your head?

We also sleep with our heads on the fridge side. In really nasty rainy weather we are still able to have the window open with no chance of rain blowing in on us.

Re: Where in bed do you put your head?

We sleep with our heads on the passenger side & have our tv mount on the street side fridge wall. The tv mount is more out of the way on the fridge side. It also feels a little more open to me having my head on that side although I'm not sure why.

Re: Where in bed do you put your head?

Driver's (fridge) side so the glow of the LED's on the fridge do keep us awake. Also we can pop the emergency exit window open for air even if it is raining, unlike the sliding window on the curb side.

Re Re: help me plan my new trailer.....
Another last minute change to make. Reading lamps now to be switched to the fridge side. The shorter opening by the stove and the fridge light issue just enlightened me. Window opening is also preferred
Laptop is my TV and table extension is on both bed walls so no issue there.

Thanks!

Re: Where in bed do you put your head?

We sleep with heads on the fridge side in our 19-- when the alarm goes off, I can turn on the furnace and water heater without even sitting up. Makes getting out of bed a few (or more) minutes later much more comfy.

Re: Where in bed do you put your head?

Bruce, what is this alarm thing you speak of? That is something not on our camping list.

Though, I am one of those early risers anyway. Just love mornings.

Re: Where in bed do you put your head?

When I had our 19ft we slept on the stove side. It was a good place to set my breathing machine during the night. We do not carry an alarm clock with us camping.

Re: Where in bed do you put your head?

I bought a cheap multipurpose clock at Radio Shack, includes alarm clock function -- the bed's comfy enough that I need it to wake me up in the morning.

Re: Where in bed do you put your head?

We sleep with our heads on the passenger side. Seems less confined than next to the fridge wall. Further away from the water pump, heater and fridge noises. Eyeglasses convenient to stash next to stove. Can open emergency window without handle sticking out at our heads.

Hi: All...Another plus for the 5.0!!! There's only one place to put your head and that's on the pillow. Alf

Amirie, I'm wondering how you modified the 19 to sleep north south?

Re: Where in bed do you put your head?

We have a 17B--so we have the extension put between the fridge and sink area and it stops well before the bathroom door.(and a few inches before the furnace--so no worry about heat and tucked in blankets)
I don't think it would work as well in the 19 because isn't the bathroom nearer the bed area?

Re: Where in bed do you put your head?

The 19 has the bed near the fridge, then there is the closet, then the bathroom. Other end of the bed is next to the stove.
