Window in Escape 19' bath....

Is now available. Thanks to recent pictures in Dave and Sandy's new 5.0 Escape build photo's, Escape installed an opening window in their unit while in production. I called Tammy and asked her if I could have one in my 19', she checked with Reace and "YES" it is now on my build sheet (ETA 7/9), she said someone else just called and requested same on their 19' but mine will be the first off the line with an opening window (3 weeks). I'm really excited over this as it will help ventilate the bath in summer as well as let light in. I plan on installing a vent in the door to allow heat in for the winter at a later date. So, for a small additional fee in your build sheet, contact Tammy or Reace. Not sure about retrofit or the 17' but the 5.0 and 19' now can have opening bath windows. There is joy in Mudville tonight.

Re: Window in Escape 19' bath....

so will this be a dual pane window like the others ? and will it have a screen that could be removed to use the hose through it for black tank rinsing? How about privacy from the window for such activitied that would require privacy( it is a bathroom )?

It will have a screen as it is an opening window similar to the one in the kitchen, do not know if the screen is removable but it is tinted. If need be I can always add some spray frosting for privacy. Dual pane, I'm not sure but the benefits far out weigh any cold intrusion and I can always install some reflectix similar to what I use on the door window in the winter.

Here is the window Reace installed in our 5.0 a few weeks ago. It adds so much light and the fresh air is great. It's a definite hit.

My wife was sooooo excited when I told her yesterday that we can now have a window in the bathroom. She says the 5.0 is now our perfect trailer. Just a little bit longer working :P, then we can put in that order.

Re: Window in Escape 19' bath....

That window looks like it is frosted. Any idea about the cost yet? I thought the issue with these windows was alowing movement between the shower panel and the side of the trailer? Did they figure that out? I also wonder about long term isues with the shower lining, it would suck to have that crack down the road because of the window .

Re: Window in Escape 19' bath....

I read somewhere there was fear that the inner and outer wall may cause issues. But that issue may have been resolved, it is frosted and has a screen. I think the benefits out weigh any risk involved. Cost was reasonable for one under construction, not sure what it would cost to retrofit nor whether it can be done because the older units may have that issue with the 2 shells that may no longer exist in the newer unit? Ask Reace would be my suggestion.

I think i may just have to call and get the details before ours goes into production, wife says that i will have to bring Tammy flowers when i pick up our trailer in august. Apparantly she thinks I have been a pain in their back sides.

Just to put in my two cents about the bathroom window idea--for us the bathroom roof vent provides adequate daylight and ventilation. Even if we had it to do over, we would not add a window in the bathroom. --Liz

I was under the impression that there is no vent in the bath and that this would solve that issue. Are you referring to the MaxxAir vent?

Re: Window in Escape 19' bath....

I find vent in the bath enough for ventilation, and it is like a skylight in that it provides adequate light for daytime use. Not certain I would want, or need, a window. Pulling the screen to use it to put the hose through might shorten its life, as those things are not very tough when out of the window frame. Besides, that only gets done a couple times a year tops. Plus, the shower sees next to no use by us as for 4 days or less when boondocking we just sponge bath, and in a campground use their showers.

A fan in the vent would be one thing I would consider first, as it would deal with condensation better.

Re: Window in Escape 19' bath....

I too wonder at the cost / benefit and if there is any benefit at all.
The supplied vent is enough for us, but I guess if more air circulation was needed, one could have a vent with a fan installed. That would provide more circulation than an open window with a screen.

As for the hose, I open the window at the back of the trailer ( 17B ) on the driver side and run it in through the bathroom door ( maybe 10 foot of hose from the window to the bog ). I've done that twice in four years.

Re: Window in Escape 19' bath....

Hi: All...Our 5.0 has a powered round pop open vent fan in the bathroom. I just had to replace the push on push off switch in it for the staggering sum of $3.95+ Tx. This fan really moves air and the bottom of the door doesn't close tight to allow some in for additional ventilation.
We always carry a synthetic chamois for wiping down the walls and some Chlorox Towelettes to wipe the toilet...just in case I miss in the dark!!! I did change out the bulb in the fixture for a dimmer one so it's not so blinding in the night. 8) Alf

FLOWERS!!! FLOWERS!!!!

That is all I saw and needed - was the thought! You make me smile.

Yes the window can be retrofitted into the other models but I think all of you need to thank Vicki (and giver her some Flowers - Marv ) as it was her persistance before, at and after the rally that helped Reace work through the concerns he had.

The cost for the opening (non-thermal) window in the bathroom is $200.00. It does have a screen and is frosted for privacy.

FLOWERS!!!

Tammy

And just to be clear you never bug me...this is what Reace and I are here for :

Re: Window in Escape 19' bath....

In support of the window;

Those of us who have owned Brand X trailers built in Rice,Texas understand the use and need for a bathroom window.
The window screen slides up to open as does the window to allow a hose in for flushing the tanks. And we can communicate with each other during the cleaning process. I do not know about everyone else, but I flush my tanks out at the dump station before leaving the park everytime. Hot weather with unclean black tanks cause odor and sanitary issues. And I do not want to run a dump station hose into the trailer from another close window or the front door. Guess how many germs that might have.

Brand X has no problems with cracking fiberglass walls or window problems using almost the exact bathroom window installed standard at the factory and I do not think Escape will either. I guess we will see. A trip to and from Alaska should be a good test.

We made a small curtain with suction cups at each corner to position the curtain inside for privacy. Easy on/easy off.

Again the great thing about Escape Industries is you get to choose your options and have your opinion. I'll take mine with a bathroom window!

Re: Window in Escape 19' bath....

It's become evident there is are geographic differences when it comes to outfitting a trailer, climate being a huge issue.

I can see why you would flush tanks every time in Texas temps.

But, I have to say, I don't drag a sanidump hose through my trailer. I carry a hose designed for potable water and another utility hose for washing the trailer or flushing tanks.

In case it's not totally clear yet, there is the Maxx fan in the aisle of the 19, and a separate non-powered, but openable, vent inside the bathroom on the ceiling. Even when the bathroom vent is closed, daylight shining through the translucent plastic vent cover turns it into a mini-skylight. --Liz

THis makes the window option even more useful. In order for any ceiling exhaust vent to operate correctly, you must have a source of air intake. With the door closed, you have no intake, unless you have the window open, for the air to exhaust out the ceiling. Just like for the MaxxAir to operate, you crack another window for it to pull air in and out thru the vent.
Also, with it in the bath, leaving it open in the rain, would not matter as the bath area is made for getting wet.

Air can move in or out through the bathroom vent (it is not a exhaust fan, by the way) without needing a window. The bathroom is not a tightly sealed box even when the door is closed. Regarding rain, there is an adjustable cover over the bathroom vent. We haven't camped in enough rain yet to say how heavy a storm it would take to have rain come through the vent if it's left open.

If somebody wants a window, get a window. But others should have the confidence that the bathroom functions perfectly well without a window, too. --Liz
