BTW, it looks like you will pay more for gasoline all the way up the West Coast, than you paid in Lordsburg, NM.

True. We have kept it as "low" as $2.45/gal using Gas Buddy. Gotta get a Costco card

While y'all are dealing with the weather up I-5 (which we will also soon be dealing with) we just realized we may have another travel issue brewing on I-10 when we start our trek next week. We'll be passing through Quartzsite, AZ along with 750,000 to 1 million RVs the 20th which is the day before the big RV show starts there. Ugh! Looks like a diversion north to I-40 and additional miles along with road construction. Anyone have other ideas?

You are going to have to start heading north sooner or later, why not at Las Cruces up to I25 to I40 west to Bakersfield, take 99 north and hook up to I5 around Modesto, Ca.

I-5 is only a few miles west of where the 58 (not 40) turns into surface steeets. We usully take 99 north for about 10 miles to 7th Standard Road(to avoid Bakersfield) then it goes NW to I-5 which is a much better road than 99.

Dave, we re-routed from I10 to Vicksburg via Hwy 60, then to Parker via Hwy 72 & Hwy 95, then on to I40. Our logic was to avoid the Los Angeles area traffic as well as Quartzsite. If you had your Harley with you, this is an awesome roller coaster route !

Thanks Jim, Red Dog and Rossue, I will look at those options because I certainly don't want to be stuck on I-10 in the middle of nowhere waiting for half a million sun blockers to exit!

This route would take through flag staff, lots of snow and ice right now. The I40 does not go to Bakersfield, you would need to take the 58 which is doable but isolated and dangerous this time of year with flash flooding and road washouts.

Arrived in Chilliwack today! Gonna get some rest before showing up at 11:00 am tomorrow morning.

At Canadian border:

Officer: Where are you coming from?

Me: Livingston, Texas

Officer: Where are you going?

Me: Chilliwack

Officer: Why are you coming to Canada?

Me: We are going to finalize the purchase of a travel trailer.

Officer: Oh...you are getting an Escape?

Me: Yes

Officer: Carry on

WHEW!

I was held up at the border for over 5 mins once a few years ago. I was not asked any questions at all as to where I had been or how long I'd been out of the country etc. All the questions he asked were about my Escape as he was thinking of getting one!

Yay Red Dog~
We've been following along and glad you made it intact!!
Whenever we've crossed the border we've gotten smiles when we say,"Escape Trailer"
BTW, thanks for that great pic along Hwy 30-it's a road to some relatives and we never go in the winter-it was very beautiful
Warm wishes for the trip home,
Take care,
Larry & Judy

Tom...that would be an affirmative.

By the way... Lake Pleasant RV Park in Bothell is packed! We could only get four days there. We wanted to wait for H46DRIVER (Dave and Linda). Gonna have to get creative. They pick theirs up around the 25th.
