12volt plug locations

Coming down to build time and I need to finalize 12 volt plug locations in our 19. Right now I have one located in the shelf above the front dinette, and one in the bed area kitchen side. Any suggestions of other locations are welcomed.

Think of uses. Charging devices, watching TV, medical - CPap, computers and what else. Now when you plug these devices in, where is the cord going to go? Across the bed? On the floor in front of the entry way? Is this a safe route for the cord?

I am becoming of the opinion that there should be at least 4 of the 12 volt outlets. Especially with solar there are so many times we are off the grid yet we want our devices.

Two around the dinette, one for TV if necessary - otherwise place the outlet low and close to counter space, at least one in bed area and perhaps a fifth near the door to allow outside connections.

Dave, what brand do you have and are you satisfied with it?

I added one outside and use it with a portable electric ice chest and the kids use it with their gear.

Karen its a "Armor All " bought of amazon for about $30 cdn. works really well, mostly wanted it to suck out the debris from around the screen door area that I cant seem to be able to sweep out.

We had three installed:

one under the dinette - used for converter for charging laptop etc;
one next to the socket under the fridge by the bed for watching movies in bed; one under the fold down table extension by the sink - for plugging in a small slow cooker that sits in the sink while on the road, making us tasty supper for when we stop for the evening.

All of them have been put to good use.

We had four 12V outlets installed.
- One on front driver side dinette seat near feet
- One on passenger side front overhead cabinet near front shelf
- One on rear driver side overhead cabinet (used for TV)
- One on rear passenger side bulkhead near swing up shelf.

So far these have worked out just great.

How many of you have an exterior 12 volt plug and where?

We had Reace install one on the outside of our 15A. We had to supply the unit. It is mounted right beside the 110volt outlet just behind the wheel well on the curb side of the trailer. We picked up a waterproof marine style unit at West Marine.

Be aware of the issue I ran into, trying to charge a laptop off a Canadian Tire inverter plugged into an outlet on the kitchen unit; Reace uses 16 gauge wire for his outlets, and that run is long enough that with 16 gauge wire you get enough voltage drop that the inverter won't function.

If you're planning to use a voltage-sensitive device on an outlet that's a significant distance from the battery, best talk with Reace about upgrading the wiring.
