17B wardrobe
Just finished second trip in 17B and decided needs shelves in the wardrobe and nuke the coat rack that comes standard. Searched the forums but could not find if it is OK to drill into the inner wall of the wardrobe to install shelves ?

Not thick enough to support shelves without strapping. Ply is only about 1/8 inch thick.

There have been retro-fits by members. I still hang stuff.
Somebody may be along to fill you in, or you could search the site.
Use the Google site search at the bottom of the search panel and type in Wardrobe. There are lots of posts.

Use a strong magnet and a flashlight to find the staples ETI used to secure the pretty wood to the framing behind it. You can use that framing (3/4 by 1 sticks) to support a design for shelves. Did that in my 21 to support drawers supported by the new shelves.

Just a caution. Tractors owns a 21 and you have a 17B. The wardrobes are not necessarily the same.
I'd read posts from other 17B owners and proceed after that.

I added adjustable shelves to mine by adding 1/4" oak strips to the side, drilled holes for push in shelf supports, and made stress skin shelves (1/8" Luan plywood on the bottom & 1/8" White Cote Masonite Hardboard on top, separated by 1/4" hardwood strips).

I purchased a plastic 5 drawer from Wal Mart. It fits under the hanger rod and leaves room for some hanging on the rod. Best of both worlds, cheap and no labor!

Thanks for all the suggestions. I went for this $20 quick fix from WalMart until I figure out something more permanent.

We used 3/4" PVC pipe so no holes had to be drilled in our 17B

I cut wire closet shelving to size and then cut the shelf support poles I bought to support all 4 sides - I used 2 on the back and 2 on the front. The shelf support poles have clips on them to lock the wire shelf on to. Normally the shelf support pole (86" long in two parts) is used in a wire closet system to provide additional support to the front edge of a wire shelf. I needed 2 and once cut, had all 4 support pieces. I hung the shelves upside down to create a front lip so things wouldn't slide out when the door was opened. Nothing is attached to the wardrobe closet itself so it is totally free-standing.
