21 - Toilet upgrade option?

Searched everywhere I can think of - anyone upgraded their plastic toilet to a porcelain/china one? If so, what model fits? In the 19 the mounting is too close to the rear wall to make one fit. Sent Escape an email but haven't heard back yet....

Why would anyone want to do that?

RV toilets vary in seat sizes and porcelain is much easier to clean. Definitely more comfortable to use.

Not referring to a big unit as found in a house.

Never thought of that!
I just thought of it as adding weight to a light weight trailer.
Would you change out the sinks as well?

No on the sinks. The Aqua Magic RV china toilet is 5 1/2 inches higher as well. Total weight is 26 lbs vs 10 for the plastic model, so doesn't add a lot of weight.

Escape just emailed they can't offer a different toilet. Sounds goofy to me, I can't believe they designed a bathroom mold around one particular toilet. I've offered to supply my own if I can find out what make and model of toilet is their standard for the 21. Can one of you owners advise me?

Not like this is rocket science!

As mentioned above it may depend on the "back" wall of the bathroom. On the 19 the wall is too close to the toilet for anything bigger to fit. That may be what a Escape is referring to.

When pressed further, Escape said the toilets have to make CSA standards, their bolt pattern, and that it is on a riser to produce a 20 inch seat height. Good enough for now. Can always change it later, but they did not respond with the make and model. I'd still like to know that just for curious.

Hi: tractors1... Our 5.0 was built with a Thetford Aqua-Magic V Hand flush model.
It has served us well and not had any issues. It would appear from the images in the owners manual the Thetford China bowl model is longer from back to front and wouldn't fit the bathroom measurements or the top of the black tank.

Thanks Alf,

Working through the build sheet is fraught with questions, I'm just the persistent type that probably drives Escape nuts with detailed questions. The only pic of the 21 bath on their website is hard to visually scale, but it looks like a longer bowl would fit. Mounting pattern is of course a different issue.

Should be no problem for a rocket scientist to simply extend the trailer by a few inches in the bath area.

Been done, although by more than a few inches... see the FiberglassRV thread. Likely not worth it for toilet change, though!

I don't have our trailer at home to measure, but there is a lot of space between the standard toilet and the back wall in a 21.

Charlie-

The toilet in my Escape 21 is a Thetford model 31646. The distance from the rear of the toilet to the sloping back wall of the bathroom is approximately six inches. The distance from the sides of the toilet to the more-or-less vertical walls of the bathroom is seven inches.

I now officially know everything. :-/

I just replaced a plastic Aqua Magic V in a Casita with Dometic Sealand ceramic bowl toilet. It was fairly inexpensive (about $150) for a ceramic toilet. The tall round 17" toilet is a model 310 and the compact round 13" tall toilet is a model 311. It has a plastic seat but a household round wood seat fits.
I don't think it took up any more space and maybe less than the Aqua Magic V. The bolt pattern (2 ea. 6" OC) is the same and the closet flange size is the same. I did have to add about 2" of PEX to the water supply line.
Go on line and you can get the exact measurements of both toilets.

elongest, that Dometic is the model I was looking at installing, and Mike Lewis confirmed above that there is space available. Since Escape won't install it I'll probably wait until the OEM breaks, then use it as a flower planter..........

For those who do not wish to replace, but instead wants to improve their existing toilet, there is always this option http://www.amazon.com/OriGlam®-Energ...G19J73RK6299B5

"improve"? I do not think that word means what you think it means...
