5.0 TA Dinette Omit for 2 Comfortable Chairs

Hello,
I have not contacted the factory yet, but has anyone ever seen or heard of ordering new, or modifying the dinette to have 2 comfortable recliner in the back? I envision 2 fold down, small tables for eating in these chairs.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
Ron

The dinette is a structural part of the trailer and can't be omitted.

Where would you put the battery(ies) and water heater? Those are in the rear cabinets.

This would be near impossible, a the seats house the water heater and all the electrical components.

At least for us we would not want this for a few reasons, we love having the big table, having a place for guests to sleep is great, and we mostly hang out outside as long as the weather is not ugly.

But, we all prefer differing things when camping. What about a nice lounger for outside, like many do?

It is not very structural, yet is very important for housing necessary components. Can't all be eliminated, for sure.

What everyone else said, but doubt that there would be near enough space for two recliners if the benches were able to be left out. It is a nice thought, however.

I consider it structural

We had a 1977 Trillium 4500. This is the trailer Escape copied. All the 4500's had a door misalignment problem. You could see it at the belly band. The front corner of the trailer, right side of the door which is the hinged side had no real structure. The front corner after many years would start to sag which lead to a misaligned belly band and the door didn't fit right anymore.

All the cabinets inside the trailer are part of the structure.

Nope. Escape leaned heavily on the Surfside ( pic ). Fellow that works at my RV shop worked with Escape in the early years and gave me some history.

So what I'm hearing is that it is feasible, If the original seat structures are in placed or have been replaced with some sort of structure as strong as OEM? Seems like someone might have thought of this before me? Has anyone improved the comfort and support in an Escape 5th wheel? Bigfoot had a model that had one bench and 2 captains chairs, along with a protruding kitchen (L shaped).
The reason i'm so driven is that my back was broken 45 years ago and It isn't getting any better. Sitting at a typical RV dinette gets very painful very quickly.

You don't mention what you drive to accommodate your bad back. Seems to me the travel part is more painful than the sitting still part while camping with a bad back. Also the bed is another component that needs mentioning.

You still haven't thought through what you're going to do with the components under the benches. You may be able to remove the dinette and build supports to prevent the "back end from getting floppy" (BTW, those were Reace's words to me when I asked about doing exactly what you want done), battery(ies), electrics and the water heater need to go somewhere. There isn't room under one bench for all that. Two comfortable chairs aren't going to fit very well in 48".

It seems like it would be easier to upgrade the cushions on either the standard or u-shaped benches. Admittedly they are not very comfy for long sits. I wonder if there are sculpted cushions out there, or how hard it would be to create something that would work for you.

I'm thinking a good upholstery shop could do wonders although it could be expensive and not good to use for a bed.

I would look into the West Marine chairs that Jon and many others have had success with. Requires no modifications, but a nice improvement in seating comfort.

These go on sale several times a year for $99

That is exactly the one I bought last Sept for my future 5.0 - it finally goes in place tomorrow evening and I'll get to see if my $99usd does what I think it should. I have a folding footstool for making it recliner-like.

Too bad it only comes in blue. Doesn't go with anything I own.

Yes I have added one of these for my wife. Not perfect but huge improvement in comfort for her bad back. Am going to get another one for myself, just missed the last sale by a day. Was 79.00 I believe, the lowest I have ever seen them. Oh well a day late, But At least not 79.00 short. They go on sale agin around November I think.
