Nah, I don't need sheltering in place as an excuse to be making sawdust. Any excuse will do.

Half-inch thick slabs culled and cut from this pile of Juniper firewood when doweled together and glued to a plywood base... makes a nice table top. Also makes one hell of a lot of waste, and sawdust.

Can't lie--Doing the turquoise colored casting resin filler thing was a whale of a trial.

I love that table Myron, is it heavy or rather heavier than the stock table in your estimate?

Jim table is not for the trailer, it is my bedside table. I made it because I was intrigued by doing the resin fill thing, combined with the appealing wood grain. The 1/2 inch plywood base does make it heavy but unlikely any more than the trailer dinette table, and it is smaller. Mostly a fun technical exercise I used to force out design instincts. I made a second one I sent to my Bro-in-Law as a birthday gift, telling him to design his own legs. Instead, he sent me a picture of it hanging on his wall.

That is the most beautiful tabletop that I have ever seen. LOVE the turquoise resin and wood grain. If I could have any table in the world, this would be my dream table to replace our 18 x30 one for our trailers dinette !

It turns out the fold-out bed table I had made some time back never got used. Primary reason - it was at the wrong end of the bed. A clunky design didn’t help. What better time than now to find another answer?

It had to be at the right end of the bed, it had to fold and slip away smoothly, it had to be fairly easy to use. One and a half, out of three, ain’t bad, Ron. The slider is a salvaged drawer slider, the two lid supports cost $2.75 each, the piano hinge, $6.64, the aluminum stock was the most expensive, from Home Depot, and the rest - shop scraps.

Finding the right folding solution was a frustrating time killer. Table had to fit between the wall and the mattress - nearly drove me to add hydroxychloroquine to the Kool Aid. We will find out if it was all worth the trouble, if we ever get to go camping.

Be careful about mentioning the "right" end of the bed though. Some folks still think having your head by the stove is the right end.

8 days to go and we're out of here. Trailer is just sitting there ready to go.

Went out there today to see how smoothly my wee bedside table was working. Not happy. Turns out “one-and-a-half out of three ain’t bad” was a tad optimistic. The table, I found, flipped up and down not so smooth or easy. Its two folding shelf end supports tended to stick and bind in their tracks.

Back to the drawing board. Junked that design. The piano hinge had to go. Changed to a single, centered, heavier folding bracket, added a small hinge at the end for stability, and new angle stock.

Seems good. A cleaner look now for sure. This, over the last two weeks, is actually my third design of this thing. Hope that’s the charm.

I think that for half the projects that I do it's either; the second time that I make one of these it'll be improved or it's back to the drawing board, seemed like a good idea at the time.
