A few modifications to my 19

We didn't order one for our 21 build due in Nov. But changing build sheet is an extra$200 plus surge protector $ Ouch . We didn't have it our other trailer and in 3 years with always hooking up never a problem ? Where we just LUCKY we live in the South so lots of electrical storms all the time . Although my home has the full FPL surge protection installed .I didn't think we needed it in our trailer .

2-microwave
3-tv and radio?
what else do we need surge for ?

Your converter and anything you have plugged in. In addition the over/under voltage protection will protect the a/c while it is operating, so just about every major component needs coverage.
They are not that hard to install, I have done 2 myself in prior trailers, easy instructions and just a few tools. Maybe 30 minutes.....

While the surge protection is useful, the EMS HW30C installed by Escape does a lot more. I've had it shut down my power when the voltage dropped low enough to damage my air conditioner, indicate an open ground, and once, reverse polarity. While not necessary, it does provide some reassurances as to power quality.

I installed mine since Escape didn't offer it as an option when I purchased my 2011 trailer.

Same here. Sometimes I wonder if all this gadgetry just adds to stress levels as one monitors every little glitch in the power source. And that I don't need while camping.

I really hated having to drill a half-inch hole just to run that remote wire. Ron that consternation must have distracted me from going purple.
I agree and share you doubters' sentiments but .... like it is with the Lottery, you can ne-ver know for sure and Like Jon said, it does cover many potential electrical sink-holes. They are out there, like Gravoids, waiting for you. Anyway, some days here in the land of enchantment can get slow enough to make a person seek satisfaction from an Escape-related stimulant.

Nope, not me. But doing it I could see it would be an easy mistake. Had to pick through the jar of screws to find four short enough. I'm just trying to save others.

The EMS protects the entire electrical system. Ours has detected quite a few power issues at campgrounds. Once or twice we have even told the campground host about it and they've usually replied that they had problems with that stand or problems with the whole campground. Sometimes it's a case of the campground owner not wanting to go to the expense of fixing their power issues, and other times it's coming from the power company. We are very glad to have the EMS. Instead of making hooking up more stressful, it gives us one less thing to worry about - knowing our electrical system is protected.

Got to agree with you on this, especially for the remote fridge thermometers, never before did I worry about it's temp.

Can't say the EMS makes me think more about the power though, didn't worry about it before or after I had one. The solar monitor is another matter.

Believe me, my older friend, there is nothing-absolutely nothing- half so much worth doing as simply messing about doing trailer mods. With apologies to Kenneth Grahame.

I know what you mean about drilling holes, always a bit of stress involved. Like today. Want to run a cable for the tv antenna up from under the bed. Good thing I pulled the kitchen drawers out and checked before drilling. Two waters lines live there.

And I am watching your progress with the King Jack. Meanwhile, my propane quick connect I added at the tank regulator lost its tethered rubber cap. They are impossible to find. When I couldn't even find a lone brass male propane fitting I could use as a plug after plugging it with fiberglass, I settled on this.

I thought every RV parts store had those QC plugs, but they're pretty expensive to use to just plug an unused outlet. I think the new rubber cap is more functional, anyway.

Back at my post #384 when gluing in place with Boots and Gloves I had a real hard time forcing the power cord's rubber shield into the plug. Must have crimped a wire inside the molded plug. The last couple days the plug kept tripping off my garage GFI. Problem solved - replaced the 30 amp male factory plug.

Ace didn't have it. Had to fit inside the port. Found out wasn't so easy finding the right 30 amp plug. Still required some shaving and trimming before I could snap that lid shut.

Think maybe you could make up a short "pigtail" that would plug into the power bush and then plug in the portable surge protector into that.

Adding 30 amp pigtails will cost you $$, may as well get the built in. Plus something else needed to carry. The built in model simplifies things.

An anomaly. A deviation, a glitch, queer blip in the life electronic. What else could it be? In last post I thought I fixed the mysterious short that seemed to me had origins in the trailer shore power line plug. Turns out not to be. After my last post the tripping of the GFI resumed.

What? Yesterday I began a re-investigation, working backward from the replaced plug, re-checking everything I could think of. The heavy duty line needed closer inspection. There were abrasions but no break-throughs at the spots where it got caught when I got too close and wrapped it violently around my walk-behind string trimmer. Was the cord loose somewhere under the bed? No.

Clearly the issue must involve the surge protector because it’s the only electric thing that’s new.

Next step – under dinette seat. Disconnect the line there from its entrance into the Progressive Industries surge protector. Unscrewed black lid, pulled Romex away from screws on both sides that sent power through and out the unit. Looked closely for abnormal signs. Touching connections, burns, dust on capacitors? None.

Used alligator clips/wires to bypass the surge protector. Everything then worked. No shorts, all fuses good. Battery charger madly whirring away. What to do now? Return the surge protector as defective?

With a clear path to a solution yet to be determined I chose in the meantime to reattach all four power wires to their original connections. Maybe the thing would spark, or blow up, then I’d feel better about returning it to the manufacturer. It clicked, the black wire sparked, the little red light bulb came on, and suddenly everything worked! It’s alive, alive!

I have no clue. Anomaly.
