a note about rock chip protection colour selection

Earlier this year I had some rock chip protection applied to the front of my 17A. In order to save a bit of $$ and to expediate the process, I decided to go with black line-x on the front corners of my Escape.

While it looks ok (by me) and works well to prevent rock chips, I would recommend getting a lighter colour than black.

In the sun the black definitely heats up - enough that there is a very notice-able warm spot on the inside of the trailer (with a distinct enough transition to tell exactly where the black ends on the outside by putting your hand on the inside).

The moral of the story - get a lighter colour if you can.

Dirk, at least you are in a place where it is hot enough to notice.

But, good advice. I am thinking of doing mine some time. I had thought to match the graphics colour (Spectra Red).

So far I have just done asphalt travel, so can't really see any issues yet. But, this weekend I will be putting on a few miles of gravel, so will have to see what effect that has on the finish.

Re: a note about rock chip protection colour selection

I think most of my rock chips came from dragging the trailer around in the Winter - with more sand and gravel on the roads (that said, definitely got some from gravel roads in the summer).

I'll send some sun your way.
