About to paint exterior
We are about to paint the exterior of our 15. There are so many options, but I have noticed that not too many have been painted. We painted our Uhaul and are thinking a aqua-marine blue color for this one, with some detailing of course. Will post when finished. Here's a picture of our (sold) Uhaul.

I could never bring myself to paint gelcoat. But, if I did this would be a great choice as an aqua-marine pearl.

Please post lots of photos and descriptions of what all you're doing as you're painting! Would be great fun to see the process.
Good luck and have fun!
Love what you did with your other trailer. Truly one-of-a-kind!

Hi: kkina... I'm sorry I don't share your enthusiasm for painted gel coat. Had one once but it was no match for a nice shiny white trailer. Good thing every body's different. Alf

It seems that someone painted an Escape half blue and half silver and it looked fantastic, at least in the photos.

I didn't like the idea of painting gelcoat either - in part because there's little chance of removing the paint and going back - but now that I own two vintages of fiberglass trailers (with exposed gelcoat) and an RV with a painted fiberglass exterior, I certainly prefer paint. I'm not criticizing the use of unpainted gelcoat, but once its finish goes downhill painting it certainly has advantages... among them, it is easier to clean and to keep shiny. Of course, paint is also the only way to get a desired colour, for most brands of RV including Escape.
I'm assuming a good paint job; a bad paint job on a trailer is terrible, and I've seen some.
I'm looking forward to seeing kkinna's painted trailer, too.

Don't do it! Bad idea. Unless the trailer's a 20 year old junk, an especially, really-really bad idea, bad like as in getting a tattoo up your arm up to your shoulder and on your neck. There are far better gel-friendly alternatives to an oxidized egg.

Like I always told my students when they told me they were getting a tattoo "It's permanent"

Well, it's their trailer. I happen to love a nice shiny white gel coat, and would never paint mine, but a good paint job could be attractive too.
I see no technical reason why it's a "bad idea", provided you prep the surface properly, use the right paint, and do a professional spray.

At the risk of being tarred and feathered once again for a differing opinion here, I like some of the paint jobs on the fiberglass trailers and would welcome seeing pics of different colors. A purist I'm not, I guess.

I say ban the non-purist.
Though I too like seeing others go outside the box with what they do.

Paint job
Over on fiberglass there's a whole list of about all of the fiberglass trailers ever made. I am against custom paint jobs because when I'm out on the road I'm already so confused most of the time I often say "what the H is that."' when I meet a vintage
trailer going the other way. Now somebody is starting a custom paint job on Escapes. The no graphics was bad enough, now I gotta put more spaces in my unknown column. It's just not fun anymore, I'm going back to road kill bingo.

Now THERE'S a compelling reason not to paint your trailer: Dave won't recognize it..[emoji23]
