If I am reading you correctly, you are suggesting that you would cover a back up camera behind a transparent smoke cover. Just be aware that most of these cameras employ infrared lights controlled by a electric eye to allow vision after dark, and they will reflect off of glass or plastic back into the lens, rendering them useless after dark. In order to work properly at night, the camera cannot be mounted behind glass or plastic.

Ever notice that whenever you pull up to a bank or go to Walmart even you will see these little smoke bubbles mounted on the wall at eye level. These are cameras that transmit both regular and infrared images. This is what I am researching and would like to do.
