Alternative to oak interior

Has anyone ever approached Reece about using an alternative to oak, I know it's a cost thing but I'd be willing to pay a premium for something different, there's plenty of options out there in stock materials, just look at production sailboats or for that matter - Airstreams and Olivers, I'm willing to bet there are buyers out there that would pay the premium for a pear/cherry veneer or something contemporary.
We have our option list ready to go but haven't put a deposit down, no rush since it's going to be 2015 anyway, still time to stir the pot and watch for a used 19 stateside.

You will not get an Airstream to change anything except the way it is now made. No changes what so ever. Oliver will add some customization. With Escape you can redesign the entire interior, except for the wall and wood materials used. You can change color of the counter tops and cushions, but the wood interior is fixed. That is not to say one can not change it upon taking ownership. It is not cost effective for a company to make a one of a kind interior wood change.

Well, you can always sand and paint the woodwork. Then you can have any color you want. The only thing that would have prevented me from buying an Escape is if the only choice was Cherry. I find that too dark. But, I live where we have more gray skies than sun.

If I could have gotten a choice, it would be pickled white. Like what Chuck has in his 21' Bigfoot.

I had asked Reace about alternatives to the oak interior when we ordered our 19', and was told no.

From what I can tell, the issue is not really changing the cabinet door colors, which are made from real wood, but is mostly issues with all of the paneling and little trim pieces that have a plastic like fake wood finish on them.

Donna, did you ask Reece if they would do a whitewash/pickled finish for you? Maybe some of the oak they buy is prefinished and cant be done.

Like Dave mentioned, the paneling isn't real wood. And ETI doesn't finish it, just the doors.

But with the ability to decide Formica, upholstery fabric and flooring... plus the addition of pillows and maybe change the window valances, I find there are plenty ways to personalize. The color of the cabinetry is a moot point for me. It's a light enough color, it's just fine.

I believe all the cabinet doors are prefinished, one of the member got his edges routed and then they had to be restained/sealed. That was the first and last time ETI did that.

The wooden doors just have a clear finish on them, no stain. It would be real easy for someone to chamfer their own doors, and touch them up with a polyurethane.

Change....humans resist it, but most businesses realize it is necessary. Escape should consider a premium package.

Right now, doesn't seem like ETI needs to change anything. They've got more business than they can produce. Maybe in a few years, if there's more similar competition and the economy really ramps up. But, if it was my business I wouldn't change a thing. If you're successful, how do you be more successful. I guess it's going according to their business plan.

We got very lucky with our one owner 2010. The only 2 changes I would have made in a build list: no TV antenna and an outdoor shower. I actually like the oak cabinets; we did a kitchen remodel 2 years ago and used rift-cut white oak. My point is that many folks like a more contemporary look, and giving people choices isn't a bad thing.

I have learned one can design their own "premium package".

I seem to recall on my first visit to the Escape web site ( a long time ago) there was a choice of oak or birch interiors - of course, there was only the choice of a 17 A or B.

I concur as it relates to fg trailers themselves. I was thinking of the personalization add-ons. Interestingly, some of the earlier add-ons are now standard, which speaks well of the responsiveness of ETI to their customers.

I believe that ETI has it's customers enjoyment as it's #1 commitment. For example, ETI continually upgrades it's appliances, where it deems best. Look at that new refer in the 19 and 21 and 5.0!!! Yet, it still maintains using the most economical rv furnace on the market, the Atwood 8012. They listen to our comments here on the forum and for an example, they now insulate their doors and they have installed larger rv sewer holders. Their led interior/exterior package is one of the best I have seen. The captain lights are a needed improvement. It is these small little things that I feel are important.

All the items Jim mentioned, with the exception of the refrigerator, are creature comforts and if we were talking about a Scamp or Casita, we'd be telling the owners of the trailer that's an owner mod and if you can't do it, call Larry Gamble.

The "wood" look is one of the many reasons why I like escape.

I have to admit that I do prefer the more "contemporary" look, ( as found, for example, in the modern Airstream trailers), to the traditional look as found in ETI trailers. But I am very satisfied with the quality and value that ETI gives me.
