Could also delete any flooring and install what you want on your own or have a contractor do it. Might get a credit for no flooring (I did when I chose not to use their standard mattress.)

Would that throw out the fit of all the cupboards etc. that sit on top of the vinyl? Might not be much, but could make a mess of fit and finish.

That would not matter, but the vinyl is laid before anything else goes in, and is a good to have on the floor in all the storage spaces. It would be real hard to install after.

Yes, one problem with leaving out the flooring is that it goes under the bed, benches and cabinets. Kind of need it done.
