Re: bath shelf
That looks very handy. Now we are trying to remember if we have that recess that you seem to have that the shelf sits on. That's a photo I missed taking. Have to go look. We have strong foil tape but I don't know that it would work.

That looks terrific!
Where did you get the industrial strength mounting tape?

Re: bath shelf
I recall that the bath on 17 and 19 are almost identical so this should work in both models.

Re: bath shelf
If you aren't a woodworker, you can get this bath caddy, which attaches with suction cups.
Escape sells a set that includes several items ( best I recall ) including a toothbrush holder, shower head holder, clothes hook and the caddy.

Re: bath shelf
There's no ledge on the 17B, just mounted it to the vertical back wall. The "industrial strength" mounting tape is from Scotch...rated for 20 pounds.
I considered the suction cup plastic thingy, but wanted at least one touch of wood in the bathroom, and very fortunately have an acquaintance with better woodworking skills than mine. Am now considering some way of boxing in the drain pipe in this area to create a small storage area that doesn't get in the way of your knees.

Re: bath shelf
We tried 3 different suction cup thingys in the bathroom and were woefully unsuccessful in getting any of them to stay put

Re: bath shelf
Get some 3M double-sided tape and apply that to the suction cups. You might find them as round pads as well.
That's what I've used to hold my paper towel holder to the underside of the cabinet ( over the sink ) for more than four years, with no failure.

Re: bath shelf
We have not used suction cups in the bathroom but we put a drop of water on the ones for the TV mirrors and they never come off even in a few days.
Okay, scratch this. I just realized that our suction cups are kind of double ones and are tightened up with twist knobs. Not the same. Tape would be better.

Re: bath shelf
Although I haven't put one in the bath, yet, I do use similar boxes made of bamboo. They are available in various size and the prices are very reasonable at The Container Store and Bed, Bath and Beyond. I used different sizes together to make a shelf I put on the wardrobe counter in our 17B. I store it while in transit and put it on the wardrobe when parked. Works great for a bunch of little things. They are fairly light so I'm sure they would stick with the heavy duty tape.

Well...the Scotch "Industrial Strength" tape didn't hold, in spite of being rated for 20 lbs. I didn't have anywhere close to that weight in the shelf. It stayed with the wood, but came off of the fiberglass. May need to find some of that 3M VHB tape, but I'm a little concerned that their collateral says it forms, in essence, a "weld". Not sure I want THAT permanent of a bond! Anybody have any experience with the VHB tape?

If it makes you feel any better, my suction cup sundry basket fell off the shower wall, dumping most of the contents into the toilet. I had had the lid up when adding antifreeze.
I think I'll just go back to using the sink for sundries.

"I was sad because I had no shoes until I met a man that had no feet". At least mine didn't spill, it hung up on the hook beneath it.

It would appear, since your shelf is so high, that you could use one or two small screws, predrilled first to add strength to your attachment, I doubt water would effect it where it is located.

Hi: santacruzer... Check out LePage No More Nails Mounting Tape. http://www.lepagenomorenails.com I mounted our mirror on the outside of the bathroom door over 5 yrs. ago and it's still there. Just make sure it's positioned right as there's no second chances with it!!! Alf

Difficult choice...hole(s) in the wall or a permanent tape installation. I've been trying to follow the advice (Rease's??) to go a year before drilling too many holes, maybe I'll try it again with more of the industrial tape. Initially I only used four attachment points. And I'll keep only plastic bottles, and will keep the lid down. At least the latter will please the lady friend!
