Burglar Alarm

Anyone out there have any info of a successful alarm installation on an Escape similar to one you might find on an auto. Not counting those cheap little jobs you might see on Ebay and Amazon.

I think about alarms for things that can be moved, and that falls into several different paths:

1. I'm inside and someone wants in
2. My trailer is parked in my driveway or next to the house and someone is trying to steal it.
3. My trailer is parked in a storage facility (several) miles from my home.

Different needs, different cost. WHAT are you looking for?

Like an alarm you would have on an auto. Parked in your yard perhaps not in a storage facility. You got it locked up with your goodies inside. You more than likely make sure it is secure when parked at home so someone won't make off with it. What about protecting the stuff inside?

I can't even begin to answer your question. My trailer is parked at home, next to it, under a carport. And I have great insurance.... I don't stay awake at night worrying... Besides, we've heard so many alarms going off... no one pays attention any more. If "it's" not hooked to a third-party alarm sytem.. no one calls 9-1-1.. in fact most folks don't even look outside the blinds to see what's going on no matter the time of day.

I'm sorry. I know you're looking for a solution to what worries you... truly.

I too am like Donna, in that I don't sweat it too much. Making sure you have good insurance coverage is what I use for protection. This eliminates the worry for me.

I knew when I posted this I would get non-answer responses.
The fact that I am asking about an alarm on a camper has nothing to do with paranoia on my part.
It always amazes me when people respond to a question like this with something like, “ I’ve been camping for 10 years and never had a problem.”
My question has nothing to do with the idiot down the street whose car alarm goes off 3 times a day and no one cares.
No matter where you camp boon docking or in a big secure RV resort if you don’t lock you grill, door, and other outside stuff up there’s a chance you might lose it and unfortunately some of you probably have already had this experience.
You lock your Escape up at home parked next to you house don’t you. You lock it up when you go out. Heck, leave it open you’ve got insurance. My security and that of my family are my responsibility and no one else’s. Wanting to protect your self and taking reasonable measures is not paranoia.
So with this in mind I will ask again. If you have an experience with an alarm for your Escape I would be grateful to hear of your experience. Please don’t waste my and your time with any other answer.
Thank you.

I'm sorry if you think we're wasting your time. A brand new Escape MAY be the third biggest asset a family or couple owns. To answer your questions based on my original post

1. 18 in the clip, one in the chamber (and YES, I can carry that)
2. Insurance that covers the trailer (not under tow), under tow....my tug carries part of the insurance
3. There ARE GPS units you can hide and when the trailer is moved.. you'll be notified (usually by smart phone $$$$$).

So, don't think all of us haven't thought about it.. we have. It has more to do with the different levels of comfort.

I wish you well.

I'm fairly new to this forum but one thing I have always enjoyed is the civility and kindness that the members have shown towards each other. It seemed to reflect the more easygoing nature of our Canadian friends to the north of us. Take a deep breath before posting your responses knowing that folks are just offering up their thoughts from their particular perspective.

Thank you.
If you knew in advance you would get answers you didn't want, then why ask, and why get bent out of shape about getting the answers you were expecting.

I think Micheal is expecting a solution, that's why he asked the question. But sometimes there is no perfect solution. Too many variables, etc.... and as I mentioned, level of comfort.

Maybe look into a "car" alarm for the trailer?? What does a car alarm do? Goes off when the door is opened? Goes off XX seconds after the door is opened and the car isn't started? A "tip" switch when the vehicle is moved? There are a gazillion solutions....

Hi: All...escape13 seems to be tied up on this question. I've never heard of any Escape owner having installed or installing an alarm system on their trailer.
Knowing Reace can do magic with custom fitted stuff I'm sure he could do it...for a price!!!
Locks are there for the honest people though, and so far the only time our truck alarm goes off is when I bend over to tie up my shoes. Sort of a loud reminder that I need to lose more weight. Alf

Michael, as Alf says, we have not had any Escape owner get such an item that we have ever heard about. I would think that your best bet is to call a number of RV repair places in your area and ask them what they have installed. I am guessing that an alarm is not uncommon with larger units. I am pretty sure that we have been sitting next to units with alarms so I expect the shops know about them. Let us know if you find something suitable, please.

Michael & Debra, perhaps it is a geographical question as you are in Mexico and most members here are either in Canada or US and we are a small group. I'm aware of members in fiberglass rv forums here http://www.fiberglassrv.com/index.html which a much larger and diverse group that have taken measures to protect their rv. You may want to pose your questions there as well. You may find the answer you are looking for.

Yowzee!

An alarm might or might not be a deterrent..depending on the determination of the person who is breaking in. If people don't pay attention to alarms..and YOU'RE not home...then the alarm is useless. My experience is...if someone WANTS it bad enough they will circumvent any type of alarm you install.

My alarm is an 870 with slugs..........dare anyone to come down my driveway and try.....I don't miss!

My suggestion to you is...gather enough information that is provided by these responses..........figure out which one suits your situation..because we don't have a crystal ball...and go for it.

Best wishes....
