pardon my ignorance.. but is there any way to convert a black tank to a composting tank like the humanure or maybe like Nature's head by redirecting urine to another tank?

HI LJY, here is one of the threads discussing composting toilets and trailers. http://www.escapeforum.org/forums/f8...ilet-2350.html

Thanks, Eric.
Unless I missed it... I was actually thinking if possible to convert the black tank and use it like a big compost tank using carbon materials. Not sure if it's vented already?? but, if so, just draw fresh air into it like Nature's Head toilet...

I currently make my own compost at home, but only with non-meat items. It would be cool if I can reuse the RV compost in rural land that I plan to buy which doesn't have sewer/septic system.

For your rural land, it would probably be simpler to build something to empty the tank into and compost it outside the trailer than trying to modify the trailer system.

You don;t have to use chemicals at all, there are enzyme based products that many people use. Maybe something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Walex-BIO-1153...+toilet+enzyme

We often use the surface of our hay field for natural composting.

I have been known to do the same for our prairie.

Why not, the cattle do it. And just one cow produces more "waste" in a day, then a trailer does in a weekend.

Most of my relatives are farmers and ranchers, and all have RV's. This is where I learned the practice.

We too use a non-chemical tank treatment like you showed.

The diet and digestive system of cattle and people are not quite the same, and that matters to the waste, so there are limits to applying this logic.

I've heard great things about the Nature's Head composting toilet. Too bad it can't be adapted for an Escape. Sure appears to make a lot of sense.

I would like to know why it can be adapted for use in a Escape?

I assume this was intended to be "why it can't be adapted for use in a Escape". The bathroom interior is moulded fiberglass, shaped around the black waste tank. If you remove the toilet, you still have the big step in the floor with the black tank underneath, so there isn't enough height for a typical composting toilet... or anything else other than a toilet intended to sit on a tank like that.

See post #4 of this thread.

Brian.... Your correct I meant can't......If that's the only reason that it would be to tall you could have a small short step stool so your feet don't dangle.
It sure would be a water saver if camping/boon docking in the desert.
