Cover for battery disconnect switch?
Hi all
I’m looking for a switch cover so the battery disconnect on our 21’ doesn’t accidentally get flipped. (It did recently)
Yes I know how to flip the switch back, but I’d prefer to keep it covered….. plus I wouldn’t want the switch to get damaged, or poke anyone in the leg.
I’m looking for a switch cover that I could flip up to access the switch.
We’ll rarely need to access the switch, as we keep the Escape plugged in while it is stored in our driveway.
I found this on Amazon, but it is not quite big enough.
https://www.amazon.com/Clear-Protect.../dp/B00CFQX1JY
Anyone have any web links to one?
Bonus points if it is on Amazon.
Extra bonus points if it is self adhesive….. otherwise I’d have to buy some VHB double sided tape
thanks.
John

Yes, definitely a problem that I noticed right away when we picked up our trailer. I have one of these somewhere in the garage and is what I'm going to. http://amzn.to/2ktzmCe
Should be an easy change out.

None of these will work as the switch toggle is too long. I had one and it didn't fit. Might fit if you shortened the toggle.

Here is my solution. Cut a guard out of a left over piece rectangular aluminum tube and drilled a hole for the switch.

Nice catch Greg. Could maybe flip the switch around where down is ON (normal position, cover closed) and up is OFF (winter storage, cover open). As has been pointed out, would need to confirm the toggle is not too long though preventing the cover from closing fully. It appears the switch has been changed over the years. The stock switch in our 2010 is shorter and looks like it would work without modification, but from the photos John and Chris have switches with a longer toggle.

Mine was broken by the guys that did a warrantee repair on the refrigerator. Rather than having them fix it I left it with a short stub and flip it with a Leatherman. Since I have solar, and spend the winters in the trailer (hopefully, in warm weather) I don't pull the batteries or store the trailer & have only switched it off when doing wiring work.

So that battery disconnect switch as in the picture is standard on your 2017 Escape and not an Escape option?

It is stock. Not an option.

The nice little labels are new, they were not in neither of my previous Escapes.

Don't think we have ever inadvertently activated the battery cutoff switch; but if I ever noticed that there was no power in the trailer, first thing I would do would be to check the switch. For my usage, I probably would not need to implement any protective devices for the switch.
