Man I just can't believe what kind of holes a dull bit makes in fiberglass.

Re: Custom Mods for the Hokie Escspe

I do like "Hokie Hubble". Since we love to boondock in the "boonies", away from all the ambient light, the telescope will be a great MOD. Thanks guys, I'd never have thougt of it!! Just get it installed before next Thursday, because that's the day HokieEscape escapes : - )

Hi: Jim... There's a guy over on the Boler Forum trying to close up a 24"X36" hole in his trailer roof and an 8"Dia. hole in the floor. Have you and your saw been getting around

Re: Custom Mods for the Hokie Escspe

Now here's a real mod that I have done. If you look at the picture, you'll see the hose that comes standard on Escape Trailers is on the bottom. That connection takes a 7/8" wrench to remove the propane bottles for refilling. (yes, I thought of the difficulty of that at 2:30 in the AM a few days ago). So, I replaced those hoses with the easier to change fittings, and one most of us are more familiar with, on the top.[img][/img]

But, it is easier for the thieves as well.
A friend of mine just changed them over the other way and carries a wrench. He had his bottles stolen when boondocking many miles from new ones.

I prefer easy myself.

Re: Custom Mods for the Hokie Escspe

Better watch it Jim, if they can't take the tanks they might take the whole trailer...
(Really bad thought) But you are right, might have to toss a lock on the tanks.

Re: Custom Mods for the Hokie Escspe

In the past I have been way more trusting with trailer security then I think I will be now. I have never used anything to stop someone from just hooking up. With my construction trailers we always use a hitch lock, as well as a heavy cable through the wheels, something I will start doing with my new Escape.

That 1/2 of 1/2% could ruin your fun if you let it. I think I'll still leave my chairs and grill out, but lock the door when we leave....and savor God's good creation without fear of that small % of trouble makers. And of course, be thankful if it they do get my tanks, that they didn't do anything worse.

Re: Custom Mods for the Hokie Escspe

Dan, I too have left coolers, chairs, BBQ's, etc out when I leave camp, and have never had an issue. I really don't like it that we can't just trust everyone, wouldn't life be much easier and enjoyable. I still remember Grandfather being devastated at the thought that he felt he had to put locks on their farmhouse doors because some neighbouring farmers had been robbed when they were away. We become victims of crime before it ever hits us. Oh well, it won't stop me from having fun either

Re: Custom Mods for the Hokie Escspe

My father gave me an inexpensive toolbox that has a wrench among other things, which I carry in my soon-to-be tv. I thought that the connection was to be hand tightened. Am I wrong? I think one is supposed to take care and not chew up the brass threads as well.

Re: Custom Mods for the Hokie Escspe

Sandra, if you have the connections that Dan put on, then a good firm hand tightening is enough. If you use the type he removed, then you do need to use a wrench. If you use an adjustable one do make sure it is sized tight, as it is easy to round the corners on the soft brass. With the wrench, a good snug tightening is all you need, definitely don't crank on it with all your might.
