If I got a dollar for every time I've said that, there would be no economic slump.

Re: Custom Mods for the Hokie Escspe
Adjustable wrenches are evil. Buy the correct sze of a good brand of open-ended wrench, and you will not round off your nut.
By the way, when we change the subject like this (remember, this is supposed to be about the telescope opening on Hokie's roof), we should start a new thread.

Re: Custom Mods for the Hokie Escspe
I agree with everything you've said. If you don't want to buy an entire set of open end wrenches, just get the 7/8".
And, I have thought of moving topics to the appropriate place when they skew off the subject line, but it would be best if members just changed the subject line and posted in the appropriate box.

Truth!!
Stretched a bit, but still the truth. ;P
It is best to start a new thread an not just the subject line, because it is not as easily found on the main page.
I too have been guilty countless times of going off topic. It is kinda like a conversation where you drift from one thing into another.

Re: Custom Mods for the Hokie Escape
The screen door is GREAT!!! However, with the little slider/lock, it's hard to handle, and if it gets away from you, it slams shut and all the innards gush out! Not a pretty site\!
I added this simple handle (inside and out) to help control the door. Works good, and it's cheap!

Re: Custom Mods for the Hokie Escspe
Not a bad idea, as the handle is quite small. Something to think about.
I adjusted the spring tension so that if we let go of it when fully closed, it barely makes it to closed. I did this for the same reasons you added the handles. The guts never came apart for us though. Well, except for the time when Jasper figured out he could not jump through it, he had not realized it was closed. He only did that once though, he looks carefully now. It was actually quite easy to put back together, I had thought it was toast.

Yes, it is easy to put back together, but when you first see it......you think "I've ruined it!!!!"

Re: Custom Mods for the Hokie Escspe
Amen!
Between the kids and the dog, I thought it was a goner on the first trip out. I'm thinking of getting some glitter spray paint and either playing Salvadore Dali or using stencils to prevent more episodes. While it looks nice, it is pretty much invisible at times. I thought of tape, but it is likely to get gummed up. The manufacturer sells replacement screens, but I haven't checked to see whether there are color options. However, since I'm sure it is a formidable task, I think appearance altering is preferable.

Re: Custom Mods for the Hokie Escspe
If you've never seen this modification, it can be a "life saver" on a warm day/night when it's raining! It's the MaxxWiindow by the same people that make the MaxxFan. Allows the MaxxFan to draw in fresh air without drawing in rain! Means you can leave a window cracked and the MaxxFan turning over the air while you travel as well, or when you have it parked out back. Little pricey ($49 at Camping World) but worth it when it's either fresh air or rain coming in your window!! And yes, it does require drilling some holes in the window frame for any who are drill shy. But, pretty easy and straight forward.

Re: Custom Mods for the Hokie Escspe
Hi Dan
Sure looks good on your trailer, I was looking for them up here in Canada
and found them $89.00 each.
This is one mod that might have to wait until we go south...

Re: Custom Mods for the Hokie Escspe
Hello.
That looks like a great modification that solves the problems of having to close the windows when it rains and then having all that interior condensation. Do they stay on the windows all the time or can they easily be taken on and off? How does it affect the view from inside? Can you clean dust etc out from behind it easily?

Hi Cal. The MaxxWindow stays on all the time since it's screwed into the window frame on the outside. It has 2 rubber gaskets, one along the entire curved outer perimeter, and one that brushes against the window when you open it. There is a pin you install inside, which keeps you from "over opening" the window past the MaxxWindow unit. When that pin is removed, the window can open fully, the screen retracted, and you can get into the unit to clean it.

Re: Custom Mods for the Hokie Escspe
heh Alf. No to the escape window! You couldn't open it since it's screwed into the window frame. I put one on the opposite dinette window, and am going to put a short one on the bedroom window, to get cross ventelation.

Re: Custom Mods for the Hokie Escspe
My newest mod, full extention drawers for our cabinet.
Wasted space under the drawers? Nope, if you'll notice pic #2, Reace left just enough space for keeping TP, paper towels, shoes, etc, that you don't need to get to often. Jan says this probably triples our usable space. Not sure about that, but it sure will be easier to get to things : - ) Maybe Rease and Co will add this as an add on?
Can't wait to get on the trail!

Re: Custom Mods for the Hokie Escspe
That looks great, Dan. Is there a door on the taller set to keep them from opening on the go too?
