Digital Thermostat

Does anyone have experience providing a digital thermostat to Escape to be used to replace the old style thermostat? Tammy said they have only done it for a couple of owners and each time the digital thermostat was defective.

I was hoping to use one of the newer digital thermostats but now I am concerned. Pardon the stupid question but is there any way to test one prior to shipping it to our Escape friends?

Any help would be appreciated!

I didn't provide one to Escape. I got a Honeywell digital and installed it last fall. It was very easy. We only used it a few weekends, but so far no problems. (Knocking on wood). This was the one I chose:

Leon,
How did you accommodate the furnace fan switch?

I had Reace put one in my new 19', it controls the furnace but he could not get a relay to operate the a/c also. I am pleased with the furnace set up, very little temperature swing as compared to the stock "coil" thermostat.

The one advantage to a larger swing in temperature, is less cycling of the furnace. This is mostly prevalent when boondocking, as every cycle sees the fan run extra time to ensure the furnace is well purged.

But for comfort, less of a temperature swing is definitely better.

>>How did you accommodate the furnace fan switch?<<

The thermostat has a three position switch, "heat", "off" and "cool". "Cool" is irrelevant for my purposes since it isn't hooked up to the AC. I control the furnace fan simply by flipping the switch between "heat" and "off".

Carol,

I installed an ACE non-programmable thermostat in my 19' and like it a lot. Here is a picture of it. It is available at any Ace Hardware or on Amazon for $23.80.

Good luck!

Too bad we can not control our a/c with these also, it would be nice to have the a/c turn on and off automatically like the furnace does.

There is also the older thread about this with more recommendations: http://www.escapeforum.org/forums/f8...html#post19113

I went with the Hunter 42999B based on Donna's info, but haven't installed it yet.

Jim,

I just know I could hack into the AC and make that happen but no time or need to do it now... If I ever do I'll share the details with you.

Just a quick question on the digital thermostat installed by Escape. Does anyone know if it shows outdoor temperature also?

If Escape is using the same digital one they installed in my 19' for the heat, it will operate both the a/c and heat now. There is no outdoor sensor. I really like the digital thermostat, I have had them in 3 of my trailers, they are accurate with little temperature swing and gives you the current reading. In one of my trailers I had a 2 stage Atwood furnace with digital thermostat. It would come on at 22,000 btu for awhile and then the thermostat would cut it back to a lower speed 10,000 btu setting. Really nice and quiet at the low setting.

Steve,

So I bought one of these [pic above] but realize now that I don't know what I'm doing. Too many options.

Do I connect the white wire to the W and the pale green to the RH? Or the other way around?

If you order a new unit, ETI can install the Dometic digital thermostat that controls both a/c and heat.

What model Dometic A/C is standard these days? Along with which Dometic Digital thermostat?

Finally, if the digital thermostat is chosen, does it change the interior panel of the A/C (as in the manual knobs don't stick down anymore?)

Gotta freeze the build sheet this week!!!!!

The thermostat is a Dometic and it eliminates all the knobs/controls on the overhead unit itself.

Thanks Jim,

We did a last visit to Dave&Kathies 21 in Portland this last weekend prior to submitting a final build sheet by June 1 and those little black knobs hung down JUST ENOUGH that I scraped my head on them every time I went under the A/C.....
