Dinette cushions

We are finalizing parts of our build list for our 19 and just recently sent Escape our custom fabric from Sailrite. We are interested in having piping added to the cushions. We are curious if anyone else has had piping added to their cushions, and if so did you have piping done to both sides of the cushions(top&bottom-front&back). Are stock cushions reversible? That was what we assumed, so when we sent the amount of fabric Escape told us would be needed, we assumed we could flip the the cushions to extend to wearability. We are now wondering if anyone had experience with cushions with piping and was our assumption about reversibility of cushions correct?

Thanks for your comments, Howard

The seat cushions have a vinyl type fabric on the bottom so they are not reversible.

Actually the vinyl side can be used when you have children or wet bathing suits....

Well we certainly will have the wet dogs without bathing suits in our trailer! The idea of the reversible vinyl is growing on me. It looks like piping is done on both edges of each cushion, so we will order enough to do that. Do the back cushions also have vinyl on one side?

Choosing the fabric was an agonizing process, and we still haven't decided on the formica. We have enjoyed seeing everyone else's formica/fabric choices. A lot of creative people on this forum!

Anyone have suggestions for the size runners you can fit onto the floor of a 19'? SOMEONE does not necessarily take off their shoes (and I don't mean the dogs!)

My wife found a couple that pretty much fill the floor space, though since I put in the cork floor with a tough finish, we use them way less. We never take footwear off to go inside, just give it a quick sweep every day or so.

I will measure them up next time I am at the trailer.

Thanks everyone for your help. This forum is the best!

Thanks Jim in advance for measuring, and glad to hear I can keep my shoes on!

My dinette cushions back keeps flopping down. Is stick-on velcro tape to the wall the only best solution?

I tried that, and although the Velcro stuck great, the glue on the back that held it to the wall failed, probably due to heat.

The reason is Escape cuts them too big. The corners are rounded in the 19 and in order to lay flat you would need to have the cushion to fit against the flat exterior wall up to the corner, not around the corner. I asked Escape to cut/trim mine smaller in the new one so that the cushions will lay flat.

I believe Escape is now trimming their cushions a little smaller to lay flat. Also with the "U" shaped dinette they are now providing 5 cushions including 2 small corner cushions. So the issue should be resolved. Perhaps the older ones can be trimmed to make the adjustment.

Jon, was it the glue to the wall that failed or the glue to the cushion back?

The glue to the wall. It stuck fine to the cushion. I did use a 2" x 3" piece of industrial Velcro - maybe less energetic stuff would work better. It only came off the wall in hot weather when I tried to remove the cushion to get in the storage compartment...

Right. Have an alternative plan I am going to try: bought wide ribbon I will pin to back of cushion at each end and running down wall and underneath seat where I will staple to the wood. Might work. Stay tuned if so.

Suggestion Myron! Use brass or stainless steel staples. Regular old metal will rust and may stain your upholstery. (Do they even make brass staples?)

I was thinking about snaps...one on each end might suffice.

New plan to keep dinette cushion back in place seems to be working.

Test results this morning: Cushion doesn't flop down like before. It does try, but top of cushion only gets 4-5 inches away from wall. Ribbon prevents a total flop-down. Think this 4-5 inch gap can be closed by applying velcro to the right side of the cushion (to glass, not vinyl) where it may stick better/longer.

We used a piece of self adhesive velcro about 2x4 inches. We had to stitch it to the cushion, but it stuck to the door gable and bath wall fine. Has been working for about 4 years now.
