DIY Raised Floor

Here's the process: First, you have to raise the WFCO. If your not in build yet I would ask ETI to raise it and the propane detector up to make an easier job if you decide to do it later. Only wire I had to unhook was ground as it wasn't long enough-changed it from a 6AWG to 8 with copper ends. Had to snip some zip ties to allow the loom to move.

Next, I built the box and thought I could use the filler boards. Used 1x3 garden stakes for the joists but turns out the finished flooring is too thick so no go on filler boards.

This 1/4" material I thought I was using wasn't finished so decided to use it on top of the vinyl floor. Used 1/4" backer board on top of the box - can see it on next photo.

Last step is to get some matching plywood from ETI for the face and L-metal for the top.

Nice job Ross ! Had me a little worried when I saw your torn paneling , but then zoomed in and saw your pencil lines . Love the Mad magazine ! I am still working on my toilet shut off . Already cut the line . Need 2 3/8 X 1/2 barb connecters to finish job . Can't find at Lowe's and Home Depot . Need to go to plumbing supply Monday . Would of been simple if I had enough Plex under dinette to cut . They left me about 3 in then it goes into bath . Not enough for valve . Could I bend the plex out say 2 in I wonder ? Anyone ? Anyway looks nice . Pat

Thanks Pat, like Reace says- "how hard can it be?" Wonder how many other Reaceisms are out there Raised the bench as it is too high for comfort at 22". Average dining chairs are 18" to a 30" table. Lucked out on the cork remnants for free; not a lot of cork flooring jobs.

BTW- there is another mod one can see in post #5. Any guesses? Hint- not the cig plug.

That copy of Mad magazine made me laugh, as a kid I loved reading them. Nice work on the floor.

I'm curious as to why did you not bring it out to the edge of the dinette?

In Tweaking the Table we cut down our table to a 23" depth. I mentioned then we decided to keep a raised floor back to that as well as otherwise it would be a weird step up onto the lounge. When sitting you don't need the floor any wider and it gives you another 5" of standing room sideways when at the stove. Oddly, the cork remnant was 24' depth. It worked out, and the platform can be easily lifted out. The trapezoid shape keeps it snug in place and I used 3" vertical blind to wrap around it.

It was the R. Crumb art book that caught my eye. I have a book of all of his LP album covers on our coffee table.

After raising the floor will the Dicor pedestal lower far enough so the table rests on the support rails for use as a bed?

Anyone know how much ETI would charge to raise the floor like this in the build?

Looks good Ross, I much agree that the 22" of seat height is too much for good comfort.

One thing though for new folks to watch, wait and consider, is that with the 2017 model, the water heater will not likely need to be tipped for the exterior fact to fit the previous slope of the mould. This will bring the overall height of the seat down a bit. I had discussed this with Reace, but until he gets the new 21 moulds (the same at the rear as the 5.0TA moulds), he won't know just how much height he can save. It still would not hurn to have the converter raised though.

Man- you had me worried Went out to measure and it is 13.75"; the Dicor goes to 12.5.

As far as cost for ETI: isn't everything $200 now(-; Actually I think that's what LeonW said it cost him but he wasn't exactly sure.

Thanks, Jim..... trying to take things less seriously; Alf is my mentor

The 21 has the water heater under the bed, but know its under a bench in the 5.0TA.

So no one has any guesses on the other mod eh? And what's with the West Coast insomniacs- we're up before 6 AM on the Forum. Oh brother

So here it is: The rails bugged me not being uniform and they're just painted poplar. Like my new bathroom door? Ha ha, just kidding- had a few sticks left over from a KT remodel and it was already perfect width.

Thanks, Ross. Glad to hear that it will work. I like the idea of recessing the raised floor a bit so it's out of the way for someone working at the stove. I'll ask ETI to do this in our 21.

Does the Dicor pedestal/slide combo also rotate?
