Hello Everyone,

We would like to take a moment to clarify a couple of things regarding the Extra Insulation with Thermal Window Option.

If you order a trailer with the Standard Insulation Package it comes with the headliner material glued directly to the fiberglass shell. We will then cover any exposed or visible areas under the benches with the Reflectix Insulation.

If you add the Extra Insulation option, Reflectix Insulation then completely covers the interior of the trailer (except the floor). However, the 21' Escape and the NEW Escape 5.0 Tandem Axle Fifth Wheel, we do not line the ceiling with Reflectix, we use a honeycomb material in the fiberglass process which strengthens the roof and provides additional insulation.

During the last 5-6 months we have been changing the method of insulation throughout the trailer including:
- behind the bathroom
- wheel wells
- exterior door

This is why you are seeing the differences between your trailers. If you have ordered a trailer with the Extra Insulation but do not see it in your trailer, you may have to peel the headliner back slightly.

I think this is a significant advancement - using cored composite construction. Reace, can you tell us how thick the honeycomb core material is, and do you have an idea how much insulation value you are expecting from it?

Only Reace can provide his actual reason, but a guess would be that the greater width of these models means that too much fiberglass thickness would be required to get sufficient strength without the use of a core material.

I can't answer the critter question, but I can recommend the foam. We had many wet and cold nights on our return trip across Washington and down the coast to Ca. and the vinyl floors felt great on late night bare footed dashes to the bathroom. In the morning I was in no hurry to put on slippers or socks. The insulation was definitely doing its job!

I was just out at the factory on Tuesday and talking with Dennis about how we had insulated the under storage benches and how I was hoping it would make it warmer on the feet.
He said the spray foam underneath also really keeps the heat out from the warmth of the ground/asphalt in the southern states....When the sun is baking on the ground all day he said it makes quite a difference...
Not that we are travelling a lot down that area in the near future--but it is an ideated something that can be done after the build (for us anyway that live so close to the factory)

I suppose that the optional sprayed-on foam under the floor would be a barrier, but it isn't needed. The fiberglass bodyshell completely envelopes the trailer, so the only way into the trailer from below would be through the holes for plumbing and wiring; there are no wooden floor sections or seams.

Hello all.

Regarding critters.I sometimes have spiders and ants in the house here in North Vancouver.
Just checked with my wife regarding critters in the trailer that we have used for eleven years.She can not remember to have seen any at all during those years.Yes, we have been down in the desert a few months in total.
Meantime we have 8 more months before we get our new 21 footer.Phew.I am spending way too much time on this forum.

I'm not sure if I was by looking at your trailer a few years ago. Do you park it on a steep driveway? I know, I know, with your frequency of posting I'll have to wait an average of 4 months for an answer.

It does not block ants!

We have had serious ant intrusions at a couple campgrounds and the storage yard where we keep our 19. We now sprinkle boric acid around all items that touch the ground if we start to get ants inside at a campsite.

This was a helpful thread to read through as we are doing our build list as well. From all of the opinions and information given here, we are satisfied with our decision to have the insulation and spray foam package.
We intend on using the trailer in what could be extremes in temperature, so having this protection will not only help with the temp variables, but also mitigate reflected heat from the pavement when I travel down south. There is also the noise factor to consider, as well as insulation of the water tanks. All positives in my book!

You got the foam insulation on your trailers. Did you get the high lift axle also? Do you think you need the high axle with the foam insulation? Plan on staying in BLM. Forest camps, National Parks etc. I'm getting the new 2017 17b

Yeah I am reading the posts but not commenting too much.
You probably looked at my trailer.We have a steep drive way.Finally decided last year to go for the 21 footer.Pick up date Jan 6.Will post this one for sale in late August.Over $ 5.000 in upgrades.

this info was the tipping point for me wanting to get the spray foam underneath.

as we camp in really hot places, and also in the snow in the mountains.
