FWIW, I'm really happy with the Escape box on my 21. holds all kinda my trailer junk, in fact, I really need to empty it and sort out the junk I've not been using as I've been carrying around like 3-4 hammers, way too many lego blocks, etc etc.

I really like the looks of the metal box but it seems a lot have opted for the Escape fiberglass box and are happy with it .

We have the ETI fiberglass box on our new 21', and it's awesome. I'd just order that if you could. They even sprayed it with a white bedliner material, so it's well protected and protects the bottom front area of the trailer as well.

I was waxing my trailer last week and while the sprayon bed liner is wonderful stuff , it makes it hard to wax the storage box . The wax goes on OK but buffing it off is another story .
Next time I may try a liquid detailer

As far as using the factory storage box for storing things we are very happy how it functions. I now have some open space in the back of my truck that I can fill with more junk that I may need sometime in the future !

It is amazing how our need for storage expands as our "stuff" expands...

Dodge Ram1500 and what Escape model? Do you use a w/d set up or a short drawbar. Can you open you tailgate while hitched, I can, that can make the difference.

My solution for front storage

I own a 2005 17B. They came from the factory with the 2 20LB tanks mounted one behind the other on the center line front to back. The last owner had the tanks moved and mounted more conventionally cross wise but close to the front where the factory mounts their boxes. Between the relocated tanks and the jack, an angle iron frame was welded in place to hold a generator. I installed a bed made from pressure treated 2x8 within this frame and had a custom built aluminum box made. Here are a couple of pics of it installed. General size is 30" back width, 18" front width, 16" depth and 18" tall.

Very nice!! That is the look I want! Thank u! I found a company in Florida that will custom build me a box and am headed to a rally there in January so I plan to bring it to them so they can measure and fit it for me. Most companies that sell them will not let you return them if 5hey don't fit.

Nice box. It certainly is handy to have a place to put stuff outside the trailer. For those wanting to do something similar, but don't want the hassle of custom fabrication there are boxes readily available with very similar dimensions to yours.

I did see similar types. My concern was the middle mounted latch and the clearance with the jack. I opted for a custom box to maximize the space. The only thing a goofed on was the double locking padlocks. My first design as not as tall as I had a top crank jack and a single lock would have the same problem of interference. I discovered the side crank jack when I visited ETI so I changed the height from 11.5" to 18" but didn't go with a single padlock tab. One I mounted it, I could see that one would have worked fine. Other then that, I am happy with it. One thing though, if you do go the custom route, be prepared for paying double of what a mass produced box is sold for.

i am currently working on my build sheet for a 19 due in March.
I have been quoted around $440 for a custom aluminum box built to my specifications.

Deakin built this box ( 20 of them actually ) for the photogs company cars at Pacific Press. Has a light inside the lid ( not connected to power ).

I'm storing this one for The Sun.
