Question Hand Rail for 5.0

Hi. Wondering if suction type hand bars like you use in a bathroom would work in the 5.0 for the bedroom stairs. Do you think they would stick to the vinyl well enough?

Thanks.

No, they work outside or in the bath, but not on the wood vinyl paneling. You need to attach something to the studs, several owners have already done this mod.

Thanks but I neglected to have ETI reinforce the walls.

You don't need reinforced walls if you attach to the studs at the corners. I found some nice Teak grab rails at a marine supply store that worked well for me.

Here are some similar ones on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

See where I attached them in this photo. One on either side of the steps. I used Torx head structural finish screws. The one on the bathroom wall is fastened from the front, counter sunk then filled in with wood putty. The one on the right is fastened from the backside through the stud. They work well for us.

I'm surprised the stairs on the 5.0 TA don't come with a hand rail. Anyone know why?

This is one reason I decided against this model, despite its good looks. I was afraid I'd fall down the stairs in the middle of the night.

I’m sorry I honestly don’t remember. 3 or 4 inches. I took the grab bars with me to Lowe’s and eyeballed them. I do remember the ones on the right were about a 1/2” longer because the had to go clear through the wall from the back. Good luck!

You may be able to reinforce the location from inside the closet with a piece of plywood if you need different spacing...

For many reasons. Lots of folks, like me, don't need them now, though may in the future when they would be really easy to install(or have someone install for you). I just put one hand on the mattress as I climb up if I need, and coming down is facing the rear so no trouble there either.

They are basically just stairs, though quite tall steps and your head would bump if you don't bend forward but by then you are past where the rails would be. Anyone with leg issues could likely use one. We are thinking of doing one on my wife's side if current therapy does not help her hip much though we are hoping it will.

Just one guys thoughts.
