Just a little update. The headboard works great. She for whom the effort was made is very pleased. I can think of various ways to embellish it, but all good for now. Thanks for your comments.

We spent a lot of thought to which end to sleep on - so I love the poplar "head board". We chose the end with the fire exit window also for two main reasons - I an reach up in bed and turn on the heat in the morning - and we can see the door and the other windows on that end. We had our reading lights installed there also.
