Just a little update. The headboard works great. She for whom the effort was made is very pleased. I can think of various ways to embellish it, but all good for now. Thanks for your comments.
The photo shows that you consider the kitchen side to be the pillow side. Like many things Escape I hope you realize that many consider that the pillows should go on the other end.

We spent a lot of thought to which end to sleep on - so I love the poplar "head board". We chose the end with the fire exit window also for two main reasons - I an reach up in bed and turn on the heat in the morning - and we can see the door and the other windows on that end. We had our reading lights installed there also.
I can think of various ways to embellish it, but all good for now. Thanks for your comments.
