Help Wanted - Installation of audio controller

I decided to install my own audio system rather than using the Escape provided option. I provided Escape with the wires for speakers, but now need to install the audio controller under an overhead cabinet, in some kind of housing/mini-cabinet.

I am intending building this in oak, but before I design/build my own housing, am sure that I'm not the only person to do this and there must be others who have pictures of their own installation that they would be happy to share with me. Any pictures would be gratefully received, with thanks.

This shelf could be made of oak and if you don’t like the open look you can put a vertical front on it that runs between the valances.

I installed this Boss system after purchasing it from forum member. Used marine speakers and audio car mount. Easy install of both. Works well with tv, phone, etc.

Did you put up an antenna for it?

No external antennae; used the included wire antenna in the cabinet above the head unit. Works great.

Maybe they have a television antenna?

Fiberglass has very little effect in blocking radio waves. In fact many large antennas are made out of a fiberglass pole with the wire element suspended inside...just like the old fiberglass CB whips.

I just ran an antenna wire up at 45 degrees from the radio then horizontal along the inside of the roof. This is good enough polarization for broad cast FM. No need to make another hole in the egg.

indeed, in fact, FM radio is entirely in between VHF channels 6 and 7.

*if* was going to install a stereo in my Escape, it would be a car stereo, and I would put it inside one of the cabinets, or maybe on the wood wall above the countertop nearest the bed (escape 12), and run 2 speakers in the front bulkheads, and 2 in the rear, probably 5.25" coax unless I thought I could get 6.5" coax in there.

but, instead, I put a car stereo in a wood box, with jacks for external speakers, and I have a pair of outdoor patio speakers on 10 foot wires.... the wood box has a 12V20AH battery in the bottom so the stereo can run for many hours without external power, and it has powerpole jacks on back so I can charge it either with my freestanding 100W solar panel, or with the Escape's power...

Mostly, I use that for music festivals, where the FM is used for the festival low power broadcast, and parties. If its just us and we're in a campground, I use a small bluetooth speaker turned down pretty low, playing from my phone on spotify ...

Cars used to have cassette decks, then CD players, now you get Bluetooth for your smart phone. AM radio used to be everywhere. How long until FM radio disappears? Their ad dollars are disappearing. Sirius XM is in serious trouble.
I wouldn't install anything permanent or that leaves holes.

True, but with any luck the DIN standard mounting format will survive the next change in technology; so far it has been used through all of those technologies.

Not to mention 8 tracks I remember getting a ride with a friend and the seat was covered with tapes that had jammed.

I agree, I'd think long and hard before I did a permanent installation that involved non-reversible cut outs etc.
