Honeywell thermostat
Someone on the other forum with an SOB said he bought a Honeywell RTH 2410B thermostat and can set the time on it. Is there any reason this would not work on Escapes? $30 at Ace.

Do you mean a programmable thermostat? The cheap one I installed for heat only on my old trailer was such and I liked it. I would like to swap out the digital on the Escape with a programmable at some point but haven't needed the heat or AC as yet so I haven't looked into it.

I guess it is programmable since I think he said he could set the time for it to come on. I don't know how the one works that Escape has as an option compared to this one.

What purpose do any of you see a programmable thermostat being?
I had purposely looked for a simple one, not programmable. I do much prefer the ease of viewing and setting the temperature on the digital. While we do use a programmable one at home, in the trailer we are right by it all the time, and will adjust it according to our needs, which vary all the time. If we are not inside we keep it low, as well as when we are in bed. Only should we be doing some task inside, or entertaining on a miserable night, will we turn it up a bit.

In answer to the first question, no reason at all why it wouldn't work.
But, as Jim asks, why a programmable thermostat in a trailer given the different situation from home use? Or is it just to have a clock by the bed?

How about in the morning to have the temp rise automatically.

Might want to see if Dometic has a programmable; the digital Dometic turns off your fan (on cooling) when the AC cycle is completed, the regular ETI version does not. Don't know if there is a difference in the wiring between the two units.

That's too much like having to get up at a pre-programmed time to go to work.
How about, roll over, reach up, tap, tap on the up arrow and by the time you convinced yourself to crawl out of your nice comfy bed the trailer's warm and toasty.

If I am not headed outside right away, this is exactly what I want to do. Don't want that noisy thing starting up before we need it, and that time differs every day.

Where's the thermostat in a 5.0TA? A couple of the posters here have them & it might not be an easy reach...

Definitely a difference! Previous threads have discussed this. IF I HAD ONLY KNOWN. The regular is only two wires. The digital has additional wires. The chief advantage is that when controlling the air conditioning it shuts down the fan as well as the compressor. It's what I dislike most about using the AC. The noise never stops unless you manually turn it off. In a build I would order the digital thermostat. One thing you can't easily add after.

Phantom load
Programmable Tstats normally have a digital display, a programmer and a battery charging circuit in them . All of which represent a phantom load on the trailer's battery . Probably not an issue when camping but it could present an issue when the trailer is in storage . If you want to have the Tstat control the A/C as well as the heat you will need the proper Tstat subbase, and possibly additional control wire (18-4 or 18-5) and a low voltage relay for the A/C. The control voltage for the furnace and A/C are derived from different sources and must be kept electrically isolated.

On the 5.0 TA the optional digital thermostat is on the bathroom wall facing the bed, you have to go up the stairs a bit to see it. It's 3 wire for A/C and heat.

The Dometic thermostat ETI supplies will shut the fan off with the compressor or run the fan constantly, shift the A/C automaticlly between hi and low speed fan plus control your furnace. Well worth the money on a new build. I was just showing the heat thermostat for anyone who did not get the Dometic setup.

Thanks for letting me know that would work, Ron. Yes, it is used by some to have it warm in the morning by setting a time which I guess the ETI option does not do.
If the ETI option turns the A/C fan off as is said, then I would think that those people who use the A/C quite a lot would want it, if they can actually sleep with their A/C. No phantom load problem in storage as we have an off switch for the battery. Thanks all.

The White-Rogers is in my Amazon Cart now. FedEx and USPS seem to be always knocking on my door. Thanks for the hints about a good digital thermostat group!
