In Oregon, you will need a Title to prove ownership before you can register the trailer in your name. Santacruzer gave good advice, see if you can get Escape Industries to help you find the owner. You'll need the owners help. Oregon DMV can be a real PITA.

Should be a sheet of 8X10 paper pasted inside the cupboard with all the info as well.

No, the sticker is on the outside driver side front of the vehicle. Should look something like this:

Wow - Sno-Cats - I can see how the Escape was just one of the things lying around!

I'll look- but a sticker? I've never heard of this before. Aren't VIN's usually permanently attached or stamped into the frame or something?

Probably is stamped somewhere on the frame, but it's also on the sticker on the outside and on the sheet of paper on the inside of the cupboard.

The sticker (on a trailer often foil not just plastic) is normal for any vehicle, and lists stuff such as the country of manufacture and the GVWR and GAWR(s), in addition to the VIN. In a car it is on the driver's door edge or door jamb, but on a trailer it is normally on the outside (usually driver's side, at the front).

In addition, a plate or stamping showing just the VIN is usually provided. In cars it is a plate at the base of the windshield (visible from outside) and stamped into the firewall, and on a trailer it is usually on the tongue (either a plate or directly stamped in). Not all trailers have had this VIN-only plate or stamping, and I don't know about Escape's practice.

Edit: I guess it took me four minutes to type my verbose version of what gbaglo got in ahead of me.
