Inverter size question
Have a 1000 watt inverter ordered for my 19. Only plan for it is to run a coffee maker needing 800 watts. For a few dollars more I can have a1500 installed. Don't need it now but who knows. Is there a big difference in the power required between the 1000 and 1500 watts if only using 800 watts?
Thanks
Dave

While the larger inverter may be a bit less efficient at 800 watts, the difference will be small enough that I doubt you will even notice it.

Dave:
Here are the spec sheets for 1000 and 1500 watt true sine wave inverters from GoPower.
http://gpelectric.com/files/gpelectr...W1000-1500.pdf
It appears the "no load" power requirement is lower for the 1500 watt inverter. If your load is 800 watts I don't think there will be much difference in actual load on the battery or batteries. It would be a good practice to turn off the inverter except when you need AC power.
You will see the efficiency is 85- 92%, which means that for 800 watt load the battery will be seeing a load of about 80 amps. You will need to make sure you have adequate batteries and cabling to handle this.
Are you planning to charge the battery or batteries with solar or generator power? You might want to look at Jon Vermilye's posting on his setup.

Thanks for the quick replys. I'm ordering the dual 6v batteries and have a 90 watt portable solar panel. I'm counting on escape to wire it correctly during the build. It looks like performance wise they are close to the same. Does it then make sense to go with the 1500 and have a bit of extra wattage to star the coffe maker?

Escape trailers use Samlex inverters and GoPower inverters are additional cost. We are having this inverter installed:
Home
which includes a GFCI outlet and:
Home
If you want the remote control installed further than the dinette seat storage box,you will need a longer networking cable such as:
DK-1611-025/WH Assmann WSW Components | AE10547-ND | DigiKey
Be sure that that the cable is a straight through and not cross over type.
Two solar panels, two 6v batteries, 1000W inverter.
The beloved wife likes to use a slow cooker (crock pot) while we are out hiking, paddling. etc. Less time cooking and washing dishes. The trip should be an "Escape" for her also.

Thanks for info. Is this the stock 1000watt inverter? I haven't talked to Reese about the install yet . I assume it will have an on/off switch. Display panel looks good.

I have that combination, and have no problem running my 1K inverter to power a 600 watt coffee pot each morning, along with the rest of the usually stuff. Since I only make one mug of coffee each morning, I don't leave the pot heating on the maker, although the current draw drops quite a bit after brewing.
If the coffee pot is the largest thing you are going to ever use, the 1K inverter will be fine. Of course, ever is an awfully long time...

We drycamp (RVing) primarily during the shoulder seasons and do want to limit our dependence on 115 VAC power supply. I specified the SSW-1000-12A inverter since it is pure sine wave, comes with a remote panel, and ground fault circuit so a outlet can be installed in the galley cabinet. Add aprox $200 for the Go Power Carmanah 1000W pure sine with remote wired.

Jubal,
Since you asked for a specific inverter with remote panel, did you also ask for specific wiring or does escape wire it with correct gauge wire? What is the advantage of having the remote panel and where are you having it installed ? What is the up charge for that inverter if you don't mind.
Thanks
Dave

Hey Dave
The location of the remote panel allows to monitor the output from the inverter and the battery input voltage while we are using the slow cooker.
Home
We provided a longer networking cable since only a 10' cable is included.
DK-1611-025/WH Assmann WSW Components | AE10547-ND | DigiKey
Be sure the networking cable is "straight through" type and not "cross over" type.
The monitor was installed in end the upper galley cabinet facing the door. Around the corner from the solar monitor.
We specified 4 AGW guage wire between the battery and inverter and a 150 A fuse as per the instruction manual.
http://www.samlexamerica.com/documen...0-12A-0912.pdf
Page 7
The cost of the inverter with the remote and two outlets was $450 CAD.
You should size you inverter so that its output is 30% more than your expected usage and within the limits of your batteries.

Jubal,
Thanks for the quick reply. This is becoming somewhat clearer. May just call escape and have them do the same install you have.

Who can tell me if the 1,500 inverter that Escape puts in their 21 foot is True sine wave or Modified Sine Wave ?

GCS,
I am working on finding out, but all indications point to true sine wave. Will let you know when ETI responds to my email.

inverters
I didn't get the invert-er from ETI which now looking things over I should have . ETI uses simplex or go-power right ?? I have a 700 watt microwave and a hair dryer for wife (I don't need one ) So I'm thinking of using a 1000watt mounting it right next to my dual 6volt batteries from ETI . ETI wired a separate line to the microwave cabinet so I can plug that into the inverter and then use other plug to go under dinette for hair dryer ? What advice does anyone have ?
Are there other inverters that are just as good as what ETI uses ?

Our 1500W is a Samlex. Xantrex a good brand but don't think 1000 will run that microwave.

The issues with running a microwave/hair dryer and inverter sizing were discussed in this thread:
www.escapeforum.org/forums/f9/inverter-not-working-6477-3.html
Considering only a small incremental cost for the added capacity I would just put in a 1500W and be done with it.
Others can probably comment on quality of inverters but I have no reason to believe that Samlex, Go-Power or Xantrex would let you down. The real question is how are you planning to put the energy back in your batteries?

I got on the inverter band wagon and had the 1500w installed. It seems like a solution in search of a problem. Coulda/shoulda saved the dough. It would have bought plenty of brewski!

Mine is a Samlex 1500 Watt, pure sine wave. Always good though to call and ask them directly, since there are sometimes changes to components from one model year to another.

inverters
We have the dual 6 volt 230 amps I believe from ETI and 160 watt solar .The microwave would be for less then 2 min max and hair dryer on low for 10min or so ? I've seen on you tube 1000watt work 700 watt microwaves and small hair dryers . After looking at inverters I think I want pure sign for better A/C power .I still haven't gone down to boat to see if microwave will work off the 1000 watt inverter that i installed 2 yrs ago .
