looking for ideas: 21' bed foot area aka wasted storage space

Now that I have a season in the 21', I can't count how many times I looked at the foot of the 21 bed (the area between the bed frame and the drawers) and wished I had a good idea for making use of the space.

I realize some of y'all are happy for that blank spot, as its a way of getting out of the bed without disturbing your partner. For those that have done something with that spot, please post up your ideas.

We use it for a backpack and the broom, especially when we are on the road. I wish it would also hold a small, folded table that I would like secured; but alas I think the backpack is too fat.

In other words, it's useful to us, just as it is... But our drawer stack just has the two drawers and furnace. YMMV

We have a flip top plastic waste basket that we use for a dirty clothes hamper. Keep folding broom/dust pan behind it.

We have a flip-up table that mounts on the side of the drawers but we have not used it yet. It has to be down for sleeping, but you don't have that problem. I think someone put a magazine rack on that side of the drawers.

A trash container that fits snugly in the opening. I might add that my wife loves to make an obstacle course out of that area. It is my egress from the bed and I have learned not to step down until I ascertain I have a clear landing zone. Portions of that area are necessary for the outside sleeper to get out of bed, I would not want an obstacle that makes that process unsafe.

Along those same lines I wish we would have opted for a second inside access door to the.permant bed storage area. In the standard access door I built a slide out storage box for shoes, works real nice but we lose easy access to the remaining area next to the bathroom door. It would make a nice clothes hamper but lifting the mattress is near impossible.

We find the area perfect for a trash can and a case of bottled water, (which we always take along for our water drinking needs).

Speaking of bottled water, I find that most cg's do not recycle and I end up carrying a lot of recyclable items home to place there.

Not pointing fingers, but I have noticed that way more in the US, than in Canada. Is this your experience too?

Not to derail this thread, but Jim, we found just the opposite in the Pac North Wet. It was great - and we used our empty dogfood bag (in the front storage box) to corral the recyclables 'til we went to the dumpster/recycle stations.

It could be a regional thing as far as recycling goes.

If we are not going to be away for more than days, I will normally bring all of the recyclable containers back home with us, as my teenage daughter uses them as a source of income. For further away, or longer stays, we use whatever recycling facilities are provided in the campgrounds. My experience is that many/majority of National and Provincial Parks will have separate garbage and recycling bins to use.

Over 2 years ago I did a cross country trip from Seattle to Lexington KY and then up to Brainerd MN and back home. Not in a trailer or motorhome, but my FJ and hotels. Hardly any of the rest stops had containers for recycling, even in WA state (where we do a ton of recycling from our homes). About the first one I found was crossing into MO. I about wadded their plastic bottle container full as I was hauling it with me until I found a place to recycle them.

When I took my motorhome rental trip earlier this year, I found most of the campgrounds I stayed at had recycling containers - this was in OR and CA.

ETI will build a door for you and ship it direct. We put a door on the bath side just for the shoes box.

Charlie, that looks like a pretty slick setup. For now, the space at the foot of the bed is where the trash can and shoes went. And all of the space under the bed is as of now still unused. Also, whats the story on your shower pan base? Loren

That's a bamboo shower platform. Think I ordered it from Amazon - perfect drop in for the pan.

You can fit a really big drawer under the 21 bed - ours is 12 wide, 10 hi, and 36 inches deep. Rides on 200# full extension slides. We use it for wifeys clothes; has a movable divider so as clean clothes turn into laundry, we move the divider along the inside to put the dirty stuff in the far end.

I always thought that's where the dog water will go, and maybe a removable trash or other bin attached to the cabinet above it. If you don't put it there, where does the dog water go?

Outside? We have never considered putting it inside actually, in nearly 25 years of owning an RV (and a dog ). Seems potentially messy.
