Mattress possibilities

My wife and I own an '09 19. It has the original 5" foam mattress, and I've added a 2" egg crate pad under it for additional support. She has decided that the present mattress is just too soft and wants to replace the mattress/egg crate combo with a "real" mattress. Looking online presents a dizzying array of choices. I'm hoping a forum member out there has found a somewhat firmer mattress to recommend -- one that's not too thick ( I'd like 7" max) or too heavy or stiff to get into place. Or, if anyone knows of a decent site or two to shop, that would be helpful, too.

Thanks,
Bruce

Bruce, we had a foam mattress made up of a 6" medium/firm base, and a 2 1/2" latex foam topper, that was like sleeping in a cloud.

I am a warm sleeper and was warned away from memory foam, as it breathes poorly, from a few mattress specialists. Latex breathes better, as do a couple other foams.

Casper and Lessa are two well reviewed mattresses for sale online. I researched them a whole bunch, and feel of the two the Lessa is the best for me.

Another route is to go to a good foam mattress store in your area, one that makes their own mattresses, and you can have one made to meet your own specs. I am considering getting one with a 4" firm base, a 2" medium mid layer, and a 2"latex foam top layer .

That said, seeing the credit from Escape is only $150 to not include a mattress, we are likely going to start with that. In our temp trailer we just added a 2" convoluted foam topper (with the egg crate part up) to the mattress that came with the trailer, and we sleep very comfy on it.

Thanks for the input, Jim. Those mattresses and Tuft and Needles are all 10", and my short wife doesn't want to have to leap up to get into bed. I'm with you, I don't like memory foam either. I'll keep searching.

We love our Purple Mattress

Bruce,

My wife and I recently replaced our (2009 19-foot) Escape mattress and memory foam topper with a Queen mattress from Purple https://shop.onpurple.com/

It is incredibly comfortable, and was reasonably easy to install since it arrives rolled up tight (although the 111 lb weight is a little awkward). To those that might comment on the weight, we don't carry anything on the bike rack mount and I re-checked my tongue weight to make sure the loading was well-balanced.

Now we are more comfortable in our trailer bed, then our at-home King.

I purchased a mattress for my 21 from Custom Size Mattress | Custom Made Mattress | MattressInsider.com after the company was favorably mentioned in a "Trailer Life" article. It is very comfortable. One side is firmer than the other. Eric
