Micro-Air Easy Start

I ordered a Micro-Air Easy Start, and am curious if anyone else has installed one on a 5.0 TA?

My concern is weight on the roof, and how you actually accomplished it. From what I read here, you really can't put weight on the roof, and by first appearance anyhow, even leaning a ladder against the unit, I think it will be a difficult install at best trying to reach form a ladder.

If that is how people do them, how do you protect the camper from the ladder?

John

Pool noodle or pipe insulation.

Not sure at all what this product is, I assume something to do with the A/C? When I replaced my A/C under warranty, we just used a sturdy step ladder to climb onto the roof to remove the old and install the new unit.

Jim, you were able to put weight direct on the roof?

Jim: These are used by some to run an A/C on a small inverter generator that otherwise couldn't handle the starting amps required.

It's installing a couple parts inside the A/C on the roof. I used an 8' step ladder to pull the cover on mine when I had to clear out some bees, that would work for me but can't say if it'd work for John.

In general folks that have one of the Giant ladders are happy with them for doing any kind of high up trailer work, might be worth the investment.

I know you have to know someone that has one of these but I would think a forklift would be the best thing. Gives you a flat platform to stand on while you are working on it. I though about this because we store our Escape in my companies warehouse and one day when I saw the forklift go by I thought best way to get on roof if I need to.
I'm like other more curious in your project and what your installing.

Enjoy the journey.

I brought some scaffolding home from work . Erected 2 sections on both sides of the trailer and ran planking from side to side . ( Fiberglass & A/C repair + fan replacement )
I’ve owned 3 different FG trailers ( Scamp Casita , Escape ) and I have never had any difficulty starting or running my A/C units .
I’m from the “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it “ school so my A/C is stock !

Rent a forklift? too expensive. Rent a scissor lift? Too exotic. Build scaffolding? Too much work. Double up a throw rug under your ladder? Might work.

I just kept my weight on the edge of the roof when I installed the Easy Start on our 19'er and didn't have an issue. I have no idea how that might relate to a 5.0TA though.

I believe Escape recommends a piece of plywood to spread your weight on the roof...

That's what i did, throw a mover's blanket under a piece of plywood to protect the finish and help with weight distribution.

We had two of us taking care on the roof of my 5.0TA to change the A/C out. Absolutely no issue.

Using this method to distribute the weight you should be able to sit up there or walk if you have two separate boards/blankets. The roof is not that fragile.

Enjoy,

Perry

Wouldn't a blanket under the wood make it slippery? especially with the slope of the 5.0.

I would think you would lower the front of the 5.0 to make the roof top more level with the ground before ascending to the roof.

I was told at my orientation in Aug this year that the new model AC I had on my 21 was designed to be much easier on the start up surge than previous models.

True?

Yes, I remember hearing that earlier also, Reace mentioned that the easy start was no longer needed with the newer a/c and 2000 watt generators. I'll try and find that in the written responses, or maybe it was said in a video?
