For propane, Dickinson Marine has some fireplaces. They look nice:

Might note he also replaced the entire counter top that it sits on with stainless steel as the stove gets pretty warm/hot. He's played with some computer fans to circulate the warmed air.

He also dismantles the entire exhaust flue for travel and reassembles it as needed. Nothing is permanently mounted.
I have the stainless steel stovetop with SS cover... I wonder if putting it on top of the SS cover is sufficient for the bottom...

Except for the hassle of setup and tear down, that sounds like they way to do it. If you were at up outside for eating and dishes, it could be doable.

Still, although I don't mind the work modifying my trailer at home, when actually camping I like things simple.

Just be cautious and make sure what you do is very safe. I love seeing and reading about these kinda mods, but I hate tragical stories.

I had one of those on my boat. Liked my diesel fuel one better. However, any diesel fueled device inevitably does have a slight diesel odor which bothers some folks.

If I was going to spend more cold time in my trailer I think that I'd install the Chesapeake, remove the fan and vent it through the roof. However my preference now is to get as far away as I can from cold weather so it's all a moot point.

He also has a stainless steel kitchen counter and removed one piece of slider glass from the kitchen window for the stove pipe, etc. I should have taken pictures, he was using it at Fall NOG.
Hi Donna,

Jeff was camped next to us at the NOG and I did manage to get a picture. He vents it out a window with a sheet metal insert that is removable as you noted. In this picture he was heating up a kettle for tea. It was warm and cozy in his trailer. Note how short the wood is!

Edit: Note: He has an LED light strip under the upper cabinets. Their reflection is producing the lines you see in the SS countertop.

Great photo, Arnie. That shows a stove WAY smaller than I imagined.

I still would never do this, but do love to see what other people do, and what works for them.

I finally installed a digital thermostat. Guess it's useless with a wood stove. Nothing to do but get up every hour or so and load the stove.

Glad you got a pic! It's not anything I'm interested in, but I do like to see creative thinking that makes things work. And aren't we all glad we're not all the same.

Agreed. Not my cup of tea either.

I think one factor in Jeff's case is this is a 1984 Scamp that he picked up for $5K. He is reusing a rig that was on its last legs before him. And as was noted in another post, this is his construction home when he is on location installing elevators. It is not a camping rig that also has to keep a spouse happy.

Even though Lisa is onboard with modifications do, there is no way I would consider even putting this idea past her.

Okay, I just did for the hell of it. Her response was simple. "Why?"

I wouldn't get off that easy. At the thought of a wood burning stove on her counter I'd get some pretty definite nasty comments. At the thought of me chopping wood on her counter........

A few weeks ago I saw a Casita with a stovepipe sticking out the top of it. Wish I could have seen the interior.

Thanks, yeah.. I know what you mean. I usually research and measure 100x before doing something like this since I don't have experience. That's how I installed a new gas water heater at home.. spent a lot of time learning and asking before actually doing.

I love these tiny stoves.

Dickenson has a very nice multi-fuel version that would mount in the rear and could be vented through a window or the ceiling. They also have an LP direct vent that could tie into your existing gas line, if you prefer that sort of fuel. I like the multi-fuel because it'll burn lump charcoal, which we are already carrying for our Cobb Grill, so that'd be a backup fuel source to our back up heat source. hahaha

This location could work, but what would you sacrifice? You would likely lose the table. I do like the look, and it would be centered nicely this way. How close would be a comfortable sitting distance from them too?

J:

Yup, you'd loose the dinette and that's a deal breaker for most. The outter cabinet of the multi-fuel says it stays cool to the touch but I wouldn't bet my cushions on it. Still, it'd be charming in a warm cozy way. Just not in my future and it'd be one of those mods that would put people off if'n you ever try to sell...jus' sayin'...

Appears he is using pressure treated wood to burn, it looks like it has a greenish tint? Also remember a wood stove, similar to fireplaces need a lot of fresh air to burn properly, so a window or other opening needs to provide such source.
