Minor Mods - Currin

I made two minor modifications to our 19 over the last week or so. Though you might like to see.

We had a towel rod that mounted on a kitchen cabinet door, like this from Amazon.

But I kept leaning into it and bending it. So I decided to make a new one, like this.

The second project was to keep the electrical panel door closed. We keep hitting it with our heels popping it open. In the following picture you can see a small screw that holds it closed. Now it needs a tool to open, but that'll be better than it coming open on its own.

The screw threads into a stand-off mounted inside the door assembly.

My wife Denise is working on blackout curtains for the bedroom windows before our next trip to Arizona. Hope to find some blinding bright sun there.

Don't know what it is called, but there is a kind of swivel closure that moves around to shut something, that could be used, so no tool needed. Or maybe two pieces of Velcro would also work.

The towel rack looks nice!

I used the swivel, it is a screen door tab. works like it should. The towel rack I used the first type pictured, on the inside of the cabinet.Here is the link

I got a pack of these from Home Depot after seeing this on the forum. No more irritation! ETI would make a lot of people happier by making this standard.

My first thought was to use a swivel as pictured above, though I figured I'd have to fabricate one. Not sure why I went with the post and screw, but it does stick out a little less. My wife's initial thought was velcro.

Any of these should be better than the stock, fall down at the smallest tap, door.

Then there is the low tech approach - mine is held closed with a piece of gaffer's tape...

VHB tape on a good sized magnet inside the door area.

Our mini mods: Dave added a little leather tab to keep the panel door closed. He also added a sliding shelf under the sink for pots and pans. Plus, I made a room darkening shade for the door.

Kathie: Can you expand on the door shade? Is it all cloth? How does it attach. It looks very clean.

My wife would really like such a door shade.

Those pull out racks are great, aren't they? I put one in our 19 as soon as we got it.

for a door shade--I put a couple stick up hooks on either side and hang my jacket over it during the night then the hooks are there to hang stuff on in the daytime

The shelf is a Lynk Roll Out Cabinet drawer 11x21:

We got ours at a local discount store but I see Amazon carries them.

For the shade I used a car window sunscreen. We made a cardboard pattern. I cut that out of the sunscreen and the fabric. I used spray glue to attach the fabric to the sunscreen then sewed the binding back on. I did not want to use velcro so we held the finished shade up to the window and I put pins through where the screws were, then Dave glued on the magnets (removing the pins of course).
We love it.

PS The shade fits in a nightstand drawer when not in use.

I plan to look at this for the cupboard under the stove top on my 17B, but, there is a lip at the bottom of the cupboard. Has anybody adapted for such a situation? Looks like I would lose quite a bit of space just trying to clear the lip.
And, if there wasn't the lip, what prevents the drawer from rolling out on it's own during travel?

Hi Glenn . If the lip isn't too much , just add wood strip under slide to level to the opening . To stop the roll out you can figure something simple . I don't have roll out yet so I need to see it first then I will know what to add . Pat
