My New Night Stand
I thought I would share couple pictures of my new custom built night stand for our Escape 19. This is a little different from add shelves in that it is not attach to any wall surfaces but rather I bolted it through the plywood under the bed. It just one less set of holes in the paneling walls.
The night stand was made to holding small things like alarm clock ,eyeglasses, phones etc.

Yes, indeedy. It is visually appealing with its open structure.

WOW, great looking and totally useful. Sometimes the simple ideas are the best ideas. Too bad they're so hard to come up with. Good thinking!

Clever way to use the mattress for stabilizing while continuing the design! This one is going on the to-do list. Thank you for sharing.

Great idea. The design could be adapted for those with other bed arrangements too.

I wanted to add a extra picture of the back corner of the night stand shelves that I built. This picture allows you to see the back cut on the back side of the shelves . By making this 45° angle cut on the back corners of the shelves it allowed the night stand to sit tightly in the corner. It also gives a good place to run power cords neatly behind the nightstand out of sight. One last point I also put black felt on all the edges of the shelves to protect against scratching the vinyl and the paneling.

How did you deal with the curvature of the wall? Or is it low enough that the wall is pretty much vertical?
(Most of the shelves I have added on exterior walls are higher up, and the wall curves quite strongly there. I haven't paid close attention to what the wall does down at mattress level...)

Hi Doug,
Yes, Doug you are right the curves are not that pronounced in the lower part of the walls. The gap on the lower shelve is about 3/8 to a 1/2 inch away from the out side wall. I added two pictures of the bottom shelve to highlight the gap.

Hi Don,
That's the funny part I would go broke if I had to pay myself for all the time that is in this little wood shop project.

I know what you're saying. I built a wood strip canoe many years ago. Many asked what I would sell it for. My answer - priceless!
